i've had a few guys toss me an extra $5 or even $10 on occasion
i'm happy to accept any and all gratuities :D
makes up for the pain in the ass guys that want to pay half now and half later:rolleyes:
slays me that a guy doesn't have $10 to get a tip put on, but then he's off to the poolhall
got tired of those kind along timeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ago
i don't fool with them anymore

I get them quite often then when the person comes back for more work I will usually give them a better price than my standard. I believe there is no better way to do business than buy a good word of mouth... :D

My Grandmother used to say "Jerry, if somebody wants to give you something, say thank you & take it. If they want to hit you ...run". I'm not sure of what she had in mind, but it is good advise...JER

For some customers, a simple thank you is not enough. They feel even better if they give you a tip because they are very happy with your work. When they give you a tip, it is showing that they feel the end result exceeded the price you charged, so I don't see giving them a break on the price because they tip you. Seems to me that defeats the purpose of the tip.

There are other reasons for giving a break in price.

Well, Like mentioned I have My share of penny pinchers too, but the reason I asked is I am often given tips for My work, and I guess I feel kind of bad taking them, but I sure can use the extra, no dought there. I do however charge more then some people do for a standard tip job, although something like a moori tip, I've been told most others charge twice My price. really I'm charging the same price for the work though regardless of the tip, I just tack what the tip costs me on to the price of labor.

Another thing is It's automatic for me to try and give it back, but they pretty much force Me to take it, and I'm just wondering if I'm insulting them by acting like I don't want to take It, and if I should just be gracious, and thank them from the get go, instead of doing so after I can't get them to take it back, and finally accepting it. I guess they wouldn't offer If they really didn't want you to take It huh?

Usually It's 5-10 bucks, but I get a few that pay me double what the job cost, even on 20 to 30 dollar jobs or more. Funny thing is, usually It's the collector type guys with nicer cues as would be expected, but I even have one guy that's just a regular Joe, with a beat up cue, and he'll give a 20 dollar tip on a 20 dollar job. I just recently retipped his cue for him and cleaned up the shaft, and he said the last tip I installed lasted over 5 years. heck on top of the $20 tip, He even bought me and My dad a round of long necks, so that was about another 5 bucks there.

I wish I could be everywhere all the time, but I have old customers like him that I have had for years, then My dad Picks up and delivers work when i'm not around, pluss I have work that goes through the pool hall, and never even see those customers face to face. The people collecting on the jobs for me, don't have a problem taking them, but when I'm face to face, I always try to give it back before accepting, and I am just wondering If that would be insulting to the customer, because that's not My intention at all.

I have a couple customers that always throw me an extra $5. I get most of my tips from shaft cleanings and ding repairs. Someone comes in and doesn't think it can be cleaned or fixed and then are astonished when they get the shaft back thats clean and smooth as glass (and not thin as a toothpick).
