Milk, mineral spirits, grape juice... and other stuff.

Varney says mineral spirits works the best on elkmasters and triangles, perhaps others.

Do a search on here for "milk duds" and you'll find numerous threads to make you happy.

Why?

I know that you soak them for about 24 hours.

Why do people make milk duds? Does it just make a harder tip or are there other reasons?

I did read the other thread but never did find out the why of it. Thanks for the help.

The absolute best tips are soaked in a mixture of African black rhino pee (white rhino doesn't work) and the juice squeezed from the tail of a young freshly caught Mongolian leaping snow lizard. Mix equal parts and stir every 20 minutes of the course of 3 years. Then soak tips wrapped in leak proof Pampers for 36 nights immediately after a full moon.:D

Different reasons for different people I suppose, but basically It helps firm some tips up. Some tips if you press dry, will just expand back out after unclamping, but If soaked, and pressed wet, then allowed to dry that way, then they will hold much better.:)

BTW Yes It does generally harden the tip up.

Oh man, I almost hurt myself laughing. But it's all wasted time, unless you devirginize a blue diamond chalk to break it in with.

They simply play better, and don't mushroom. They do become harder, and as less energy is absorbed by the tip when stroking the cue ball, will play a bit "faster" than a newly installed, non-milk dud tip. Also, there is basically no break in period for a milk dud; it plays well from the get go. And there is no mushiness whatsoever.

I like to soak my tip in cooter juice. I leave it in there as long as I can until it is ready to pull out:)
