tips? whats your preference?

Triangle is the tip I have settled into after spending a fortune on all the layered hype . This is my preference . On a side note I have used kamui ,everest ,moori , Talisman ,sniper just off the top of my head .
A tip is a personal thing JMHO

You know, just ONCE I would like someone to ask about tips and indicate what game they might be playing. The kind of game you are playing and your skill level will alter the kind of tip that is potimal for your stick and your game. The thought that one kind of tip is optimal for ALL games ALL tables or ALL cloth is (ahem) not rational.

For example: Games where power is key (say 9-ball) will want a tip on the harder end of the scale, while games where delicasy and precision are key (say 14.1) will want a tip on the softer end of the scale. Players with a well developed deliberate stroke can get along with a harder tip than players with less deliberate strokes. Tables with slow fuzzy felt require slightly harder tips than tables with fast as heck billiard cloth.

I have a friend that plays with a hard tip in 8-ball, but changes to a medium tip for 1-15 (a varriant of 8-ball where the 1 and the 15 are assigned specific side pockets). The added strategy imposed on the 1 and 15 balls, alters the strategy and dynamics of the game enough that tip hardness comes into play. He amanges this with two identical shafts (excepting the different tips).

thats good info, i was not meaning to get scientific really i am not that into pool to that level. i play 8 ball and 9 ball on all types of tables from valley bar box spilled beers and hand chalk with nappy cloth to 9 ft diamond tables with perfect semonis cloth. i really was just curious on the brand of tip. to each is own it's all about the game.
thanks,
jonathan

I play all the games and with the same tip. Triangle. Slow table, fast table, diamond or gold crown or gandy. I still use the same tip. But what do I know I break, jump, and play with just one cue.

i used to be a firm believer in Moori tips until recent years.

now i use a Kamui Super Soft, and i will never switch back...i love kamui's tips

i think i've tried almost every tip on the market and i always come back to the good ole triangle

seems that triangle and kamui med black is the popular pick so far. so one $25 the other is way way less? is the extra coin worth it i wonder? specially just playing to play?

thanks everyone,

Tips

Thanks for posting so I could see your avatar. My next stop is the Kamuii Blk Med. I don't think I will be disappointed.

i switched to a OB2 about 9 months ago, and i was skeptical of the everest tip that came with it. i figured i would play it for a while then change to either a sniper or kamui. well long story short, while waiting for it to wear out i decided i really like it. i play 9 ball and 8 ball and have been messing around with straight pool the everest has done all i am capable of and even has more that it could do. the wear is good, no problems with mushrooming. i am completely satified. Hi All,
This is a great point and we have a graphic to show it. Which Kamui tip do you want to do the job right?

I'm beginning to wonder when you're going to stop cramming that graph down everyone's throat. That is no less than the third time I've seen you post it. We get it. Link to it in your signature and be done with it.
