Tire kickers

I had a weird/funny experience. I wasn’t selling anything but this guy kept calling my number wanting to buy an item he thought I had posted in the paper. I kept telling him he had the wrong number and he would get mad and hang up. The last time he called I told him to please stop calling, he had the wrong number. He got mad and yelled, “I am calling the right number but you keep answering the f’n phone!” 😬

Reminds me of many years ago before cell phones. Every night some character would call asking for someone by a different name to buy drugs. Usually was pretty messed up when he called. Kept telling him he had the wrong number, but it never got through to him. One night I had had enough, so the next time he called I sounded all heart broken and told him the guy had just been shot that afternoon and was at the hospital but wasn't expected to make it. Never heard from him again.

just put firm price in ad and only respond to a phone number with a text. then call and talk. after you vette them in google. why do email back and forth
and anyone who answers an ad with is this item still for sale is a scam.

I absolutely don't undestand those screenshots. At first I was thinking the OP was the buyer complaining about the seller inability to provide useful answers. In fact It's the seller complaining about people interested by its goods.
Still makes no sense to me.

I almost always start with that. There's a few non-negotiables that need to be addressed up front. Primarily, is item still for sale?

I've been scam'em free mostly.

i only sell for cash. even boats and cars. unless the transaction is at theirs or my bank. i dont need the hassle.

for something cheap like less than 1000 bucks ill take a check and only let it go after it completely clears.
im not sending something in the mail and dealing with the bullshit that goes with the buyers and their payments and complaints for a couple hundred bucks.

and i am never putting a deposit on something from someone ive never met and doesnt even have a place of business other than their garage.

Just because a potential buyer doesn't insta-pay you doesn't make them a tire kicker. Maybe they are a discerning customer wanting details and information. Maybe they are trying to figure out what they want to buy. You shouldn't list stuff for sale if you don't have the patience to go through the actual sales process.

you owe no buyer more than a small piece of your time. if they have purchase issues you have no obligation to deal with that.

when you sell something it is on your terms not the buyers.

Corduroy? Really? Yea, we would get along just fine. You wear cargo shorts with empty pockets too? We might be BFF's haha
Dammit.
The one day I decided not to wear a suit...or put anything in my 14 shorts pockets!
(Busted. All counts)

What do you expect Bro? You're selling shit on Facebook Marketplace. Any dipshit with a facebook account can Engauge you. Instead of getting worked up about it, just learn how to sift through the bullshit and move on.

By the way, Facebook is partly to blame since they are trying to change how selling and transacting is done. Also, the search feature is bullshit. The algorithm shows you want they want to show you. First thing they need to do is remove the recommended comments like "Is This Still Available". I can't tell you how many of those I get and I write a thoughtful response and never hear back. Or other times I click the recommended response and don't hear back.

Good news is if you pay attention, you can usually instantly tell when you have a serious buyer. Those are the ones to focus on.

I also blame part of this on the younger instant gratification generation and the lack of patience they have. Everything to some of these young folks life is all about speed and clicks.

Beyond all of that I still think FBMP is a net positive for me. It's the only reason I have a FB account.

I have purchased and sold a lot of stuff on FB Marketplace, from used furniture, to electronics, tools, and yes, even cues.

When I am interested in an item, I never simply respond using the default "is this still available" text. I always make my note personal and specific to the item I am interested in. That way sellers know I am not just a bot and I'm genuinely interested. Of course, I don't buy every item I've inquired on, but I have had very good success both selling and buying using intelligent "non-bot" dialog, getting responses fairly consistently.
