Why have titlest conversion cues become so popular as of late or has that been the case for years?I have only been playing a short while but they really seem to be hot.Thanks,M.S.

Cause everyone wants to be like me, Mike...LOL....just kidding.

I am not sure...but I think it may have to do with the fact that the vaneers are so pretty colorful and it's a great way to rejuvenate an older, maybe warped cue and make it fresh.

Kind of like taking a '63 vette and slapping a 454 big block in it with trip dueces and big fat slicks on the back...*grin* Bet ya didn't know I was a motorhead too?

Shorty

...for dummies

Can someone tell me what a Titlist conversion is? I was wondering this the other day and am glad a thread surfaced about it.

Thanks.

Titlists are veneered, full spliced housecues that have been thought of as good playing cues for a long time. The conversions are basically making the one piece due into a two piece cue. Some are cut at the splice with a handle added and some are left full-splice.

Thanks for chiming in, Zeeder.

Is there anywhere I can bone up on cue terminology (websites)? I know basically how to describe a cue...points (floating and non), inlays, forearm, butt sleeve, Hoppe ring, bushka ring.

But I don't know exactly what veneers are (I think they have to do with the points...maybe the layers of colors that outline them?), nor do I know what you mean by splice.

Again thanks.

Several of the cuemaker websites have explanations of the anatomy of a cue. Here are a couple that I like:

More good info....

Both of these are great places to start learning about cue construction. While at the Hercek site go to this page as well... http://www.hercek.com/interview.html

It's an interesting interview with a cue maker pubished in All About Pool in 1996. :D

I just re-read this great interview.... it's really a MUST-READ for anyone new to the art and 'science' of cue making. Joel Hercek talks about everything related to how and why he makes cues. This is the guy that bought Burton Spain's cue making operation from him before he passed on. Spain spent 8 months teaching Hercek his methods before he died, especially his famous "full splice" blank process. I learned a lot about this extremely important part of the cue making art and history by reading this interview.

I sometimes play a guy who has an old Willie Hoppe
Brunswick that was converted & signed by Bill Schick.

What's it worth, guys? Is in excellent shape.

Does anyone have recommendations as to who to send an old Brunswick one-piece to for conversion?

Most cuemakers will do a titlist/brunswick conversion for u...Some recommendations...

Mottey/White does a mean conversion.. but will set u back ard 1k++ and 6 months wait.

Gilbert is an expert in these types of conversion..

Richard can do a titlist conversion for...provided u own 15 of his cues..

Scruggs doesnt do Titlist conversions anymore...

Jim Buss titlists are nice...a great cuemaker, short wait, reasonable prices.. Highly Recommended!

Jerry R. (ur playing cue maker) does a mean job.. why dont u ask him?

I've noticed prices for pre-conversion Titleist cues are pretty high because of their conversion potential. What's a reasonable price range on the current market for a pre-conversion Titleist? Other than eBay or an online dealer, where's a good place to get one?

there is a cue making genius in new york, who makes full spliced titielst conversions better than any human. he works on all of the pros cues, including 3-cushion billiard pros as well. here is his cell phone number 646-522-0266 his name is joeseph franke pronounced frank-E. he is out of new york, and makes the meaniest full spliced cue you'd ever want to hit with. call him and talk. he also has connections to france and japan for very exotic tips!! mention my name bernie friend.

Thanks for the responses. I did speak with Jerry about two weeks ago, and I liked his ideas. I will probably go with him, but I didn't want to have tunnel-vision on this.

Jerry Olivier recently converted an old Brunswick #20 cue for me, and it came out perfect. It hits great, also. His price was surprisingly low. And you can trust him to deliver the cue when he says he will. That's important. Good luck.

Regared,

Yes thats VERY IMPORTANT....many cuemaker's definition of time works on a different calendar.. The long wait and endless excuses can really dampen any enthusiam that u might have..
The Schrager Titlist i had, Bert told me would only take 2 months to convert and it was a 3 year wait !
From my experience, Jim Buss delivers on time.. Gilbert and Webb also has a good reputation for punctuality. Wont go wrong with this guys....

Titlist Conversion

You might talk to Scott Sherbine at Proficient Billiards. He shows some pretty nice looking conversion cues on their website. I know that the refinishing and repairs at Proficient are well priced, high quality, and delivered on time.

I also waited for almost three years for a Schrager cue.
