Working with a blank that has solid and colorful veneers is paramount, and sometimes you just don't know what you've got until it's turned down some. I've seen several awesome final products from different cuemakers over the years, but one of the best was an ebony one that Mottey converted into a Bushka-clone a few years ago.
There's one thing that I really like to see in the construction of a Titlist conversion....and that's showing off where the veneers meet at the base of the points (see attached pic). I certainly understand that in some instances a cue has to have a handle installed to make the Titlist work due to warpage or to even up the points. But I prefer it when the splice is kept intact back under the wrap. And my biggest peeve is when cuemakers add in ring work at the A-joint (handle/forearm connection) like a Bushka ring...IMO that just doesn't look right aesthetically, not to mention goes against the "full splice" notion that you immediately think of with a Titlist.

You might consider Pete Tascarella (if he's still doing conversions). His Titlist conversions never go down in price. Another choice is Paul Mottey (James White). Those cues will also hold their value.ratcues said:

No3 Tad Kohara Titlist Purpleheart. Look! Half joint!
No2 JW Oak titlist. I think this cue belongs in the blue book. A fine specimen!
No1 Last but not least. Another JW. A classic. Not the most original of design but look at the execution!
Need more? BTW the No1 cue will soon be replaced by a new No1. Or rather "The One Cue" I finally found it!!!

Wow nice cues, do you own them?
Unfortunately no.
Except for the first one. I played with all of them and had a real good look and feel of them.
They belong to an old friend who is no longer with us. The hardest part of having a nice collection was seeing it being sold off piece by piece. I am guilty of selling a few of them.
Fortunately I am not a collector. Else I would have bought them all and declare myself broke!!!
I am happy with the one that I have found. I only need one good cue.
Now I can stop chasing cues and start chasing results!

For looks, I liked this one best. A nice old school look with ringwork not overly done and using woods that match up with the forearm, finish is low gloss, with a wrap that is distinct but does not look out of place on the cue.

I might run an initial pass on it today and see what I'm up against. I'll post pics when I get a chance.
Keep the conversion pics coming. This is what is really neat about cuemaking. Everyone gets a similar starting piece and then we see how they interpret it. Very cool.
