Without getting into too much, let's just say that Titlist cues are of great historical importance in cuemaking. Years ago, Brunswick began making single piece bar cues (called Titlists) of different woods with colored veneers accenting the points. They made a LOT of these from roughly 1930-1970. Back then cuemakers did not readily have components to build cues available to them like they do today, most notably the soft veneers to make prongs like this. Many of the past greats "converted" these bar cues, using the these bar cues as a basis for their custom cue....adding joints, collars, rings, butt cap, wrap, etc. These Titlists were plentiful and cheap, but they were solid and of good quality up until the mid to late 1960s. Almost all of the past HOF cuemakers like Rambow, Martin, Balabushka, Tillis, Petersen, Gutierrez, etc. used them. There are still some Titlists floating around, but not many. They command anywhere from a couple of hundred to a thousand $$$ just for the one piece bar cue. Here's a good Web site that one of our fellow AZers built dedicated to the history of these cues. If you are interested, it's a good place to begin reading, learning, and seeing some examples....
