Haven't seen Tommy in quite some time but did the other day in the bonus ball match. He sure looks to be in great shape and way more buff than when I saw em beat/Drill Archer in the US Open finals in 91. I also noticed SVB getting that strength' look in his upper body/face, are these guys at the gym allot?

Shane hits the gym all of the time as does Phil Burford. I think Thorsten, Charlie Williams and a few others spend some quality time in the gym.

I think more time in the gym means better performance on the pool table. It may very well be the reason for the closing of the gap between the Filipino players and the American players.

His stroke is rather weird and not very aesthetic, though. Almost like a "strokus interruptus".
Nevertheless, he plays very good, especially extremely thin cuts.

Yes, and as a beginning player it was very hard to watch. I'm trying to be religious about my stroke and it really helps to watch players like SVB, etc.

But Kennedy pokes at the ball; no backstroke to speak of and no follow-through. It's the kind of stroke that I reprimand myself for when I do it.

Except, of course, he makes the shot.

Same thing with Allan Hopkins...all forward motion. Bustamante, Hopkins, Kennedy, Davis, McCready, and countless others shoot or shot better than most of us will ever see let alone achieve; yet their strokes are definitely NOT text book!

Yet, Bustamante's is rather fluid and loose (maybe too loose). Not textbook but nice looking. ;)

Not to say that textbook is the only way to stroke, but I will say, as we all know, its not what your doing before the final swing, but the final swing itself:) you can be all over the place with the cue, but the bottom line is if you can hit your intended Target on the Que ball and object ball with a smooth stroke, everything else doesn't matter! When I saw Shane in providence a couple yrs ago, he was with dechaine and they were screwing around, Shane was doing this absolutely rediculous draw stroke that had dechaine amazed!!! To amaze that kid tells you something! Anyway, I did record it on my phone, bus follow through was about an inch!!!!!!! Seeing it live, you would of thought he was following through like a foot to do that shot, but nope, around an inch! Moral of the story, yes, you should learn how to stroke properly! This will definitely give great consistency, but at the end, its all about what happens in the final stroke!!! To me, the key is to still be accelerating through the Que ball!!! This will give you maximum Que ball action!!!

Bustamante's beginning stroke, as he gets down on a shot, reminds me of movements I do when I am suffering from shoulder pain. I have a partially torn rotator, and I move my shoulder around alot to get it in "alignment".

Kennedy has a newbie stroke, it's amazing that he can play at the level he does.
