To anyone at Bagram Airfield...

I know this could probably go in the "kings of" forum, or the action forum, but I know it'd get a little more traffic here...

I'm putting out a general challenge to any and all at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan. Any game. 3-ball, 6-ball, 7-ball, 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball, 14.1, 1 Pocket, equal offense, ***edited to include ROTATION as well, since there are quite a few Pinoy's out here*** 3C if you can find a table, snooker, don't matter. I want to know who the best player is here on BAF. Not saying I'm it. But I'd like to run into someone who can show me otherwise.

We don't have to, but if a wager is involved as well, that wouldn't hurt my feelings either. As the smooth criminal says..."the window is open".

Bring it...

2 9's and 2 8's...not sure about the 9's, but the 8's are not slate beds, and aren't very heavy. (i.e. they shift) But it's better than nothing.

I was in & out of Bagram several times back when it was hot. It was the hub for several FOB's. Salerno was the one I was always visiting. But I spent lots of time at Bagram awaiting transport to & from. Back then it was kind of a hole. It had a chow hall & a few tents with a ragged air strip that supported mostly army & marine choppers & C-130's. Was far better than Salerno, though. Anyway, you guys stay tough over there. I'm proud of you all. If I were there i'd sure put your challenge to the test :)

Bagram has grown exponentially since that time. There are still tents floating around here, but for the most part it's all B-huts and hard buildings. Also, the size has absolutely exploded. There are close to 10k people on BAF at any given time...when I was here in '06 they were struggling to keep up with 3K people.

As far as the challenge is concerned, I figured I'd stir the pot a little bit. Cant hurt any, and might drum up some good competition...the tournament they run every other week doesn't seem like it'd be too much of a guage...(race to 2 8-ball).

Pool at war?

It is pretty sad we have soldiers getting killed over there and your posting for someone to play in a warzone. I dont know what your job is but they need to get rid of it because obviously there is nothing for you to do.I am a fellow soldier and been deployed over there. When i did have time i slept and got prepared for my next mission.

SFC Pierce,

You're certainly entitled to your opinion about how I spend my time here on Bagram. You're right though. Soldiers are getting killed over here...I guess for that reason they should get rid of all the MWR facilities aside from computers and phones.

If you read my post to say that I was looking strictly for a gambling match, you're sadly mistaken. I'm looking to see, for those who are lucky enough to be working at Bagram, or are on Bagram, who is the best shot. To make it seem like I"m taking advantage of people...please get real. Just like I said in my second post, just trying to stir the pot a little.

As for me, I work every day out here. What I do saves coalition and innocents lives, and puts others in custody or in an early grave. In the spare time that I do happen to have here on BAF, I enjoy shooting pool, and know that I am extremely lucky to have the opportunity to do so. If you have a problem with that, tough. I've done my time outside of the wire humping the equivalent of a fully grown person in my rucksack, not including my kit. I've lost my fair share of friends as well. So for you to make it seem like I don't give a shit about those who are out there, or don't know what they're doing, try again.

I wouldn't pay heed to anything written by a member with the word "hater" in their forum name. Speaks volumes.

What you're doing will bring much-needed relief from the horrors experienced over there, Dagwoodz. War is hell.

Thank you for your service, and you, too, Playerhater. :grin-square:

Exactly. I was there in '02 & '03, and there were no tables that I knew of but it would have been nice. The mission of the base, beyond being a major presence in the area, is a virtual hub for forward deploying. Troops like myself only stayed there a day or a few at a time while in transit. While there we ate good meals, relaxed, & mentally prepared for the task ahead of us. It would have been nice to have a table to knock balls around on. I'm glad that they do have now for all the others.

Don't be too tough on Playerhater. I'm sure he's speaking exactly what's on his mind and feels exactly what he's saying. Been there. It's real. The feelings are real. Each person adjusts their own way. For me, I just wanted to relax & get some good grub. I would have played pool if I could. I turned on the serious switch when I was loading up to go and stayed emotionally numb the rest of the time. Some guys don't have the switch & are in constant alert even when they don't need to be. It's just how things go. Hopefully as he goes a couple more times & gets a bit more experience, he'll learn to relax. But being PFC means he's likely not even old enough to drink yet, or barely past that. He's a kid & the things he's seeing, if anything like I went through over there, is traumatizing to the mind & spirit, especially for a very young man.

My advice to all of you folks serving over there is to be supportive of one another. Don't alienate yourselves from one another's support simply because you have different points of view. No matter what or how, you're all doing the same job & that is serving & protecting your motherland, USA. You chose to do so when most are too afraid. So put aside petty differences & support one another because you all need it no matter how tough you think you are. This isn't vietnam & it is ok to talk about it and release your stress. If any of you wanna give me a call i'll gladly PM you my phone number. I have been there & understand, and you don't know me from Adam so you can dump on me carefree. The offer stands. And if any of you need something in the form of care packages, lemme know & it'll be done. Jerky, magazines, charmin TP (i always kept some around, you can't imagine how comforting good toilet paper can be in times of distress), whatever. Just let me know. My family & friends & comrades love you guys & offer our support.

I have been there twice and 1 other time somewhere else. As a fellow soldier i guess i just dont understand. Yes i would take computers, pool tables and etc,. away.
The reason why is focus! If i dont stay sharp and focused in & out of the wire people get hurt. I love pool, football , my kids etc., which i am sure you do to, but if i dont stay focused a 100% all the time me or my soldiers might not get to do what we love ever again back here.
I am not trying to preach to you or make any enemies, you are a professional Army SSG with soldiers to take care off. I dont know you but If you ever needed anything i would be there in a heartbeat. You can send me a private message and i will give you my outlook email if you ever need anything.
As for name being playerhater. 80% of my friends always tell me they hated me until they got to know me.
Gods strength and Honor,
SFC Pierce
