Tonight is the night I revive my yearly NYE doubles 8 ball tournament.
I let all the family amateurs have at my table. But this is the first one on the 9' Diamond.
I used to have a 8' Beach. I loved that one too. (Not like the Diamond though)
It's been 10 yrs. since the last party. (Moved and gutted this place)

There will be drinking. And eating. And playing. I am crazy I guess. But hopefully the no spilling streak continues. Or someone might get tossed!!

Just tell people to put their drinks on the rail instead of the cloth surface.

That should work well, for about ten minutes.

Seriously, just tell them that unless they want to see the inside of a modern ambulance, set the drinks on the coffee table before shooting.
 
just accept that it may get spilled on....in the grand scheme of things having friends and family to spill wine on your table is better than playing pool alone on nye
 
You could start a new family tradition: every year, first week of January, Dad gets new cloth on the table :D

I'd still ask people to be careful, but if an accident happens you'll know that it's going away soon.

Have fun!....and count yourself lucky that you've even got friends and family who want to play pool...

All is well with the table! Some family issues..... but you know how that goes! haha

Are you sure you don't have the words mixed up?

Playing pool alone with wine on NyE is better than friends and family. Just accept that.
 
Invoke the dreaded "Shadow Rule"! At my house it is clearly explained to everyone who goes into my man cave that anyone that has a drink within the shadow that is thrown by the table (which is about 2-3 feet all around the table) owes the person who points out the shadow rule $5.

People learn quickly that they need to stay away from the table. And yes, I have had to toss people from the room for not obeying the rule they agreed to abide by. Usually they get a very succinct GTFO. :)

I had a bit of an NYE pool grudge match going on at my house... we had about 15 people total, with music, fondue and plenty of beverages. Surprisingly, nobody got close to the table with a drink in hand that I saw.

One particular friend, with whom I used to DJ a lot back in the day.. had not been to my house since moving here a couple of years ago (both of us with family, kids, etc and we live an hour apart) At one point early in 2014, just after getting the table set up in my house... I was at his house hanging out and told him about the table. In the 15 years we've known each other, pool never really came up very often. He proceeded to tell me how he was going to school me on my own table, and how he used to rule the table at this club he DJ'd at before we met, blah, blah, blah... I just smirked, let him talk noise and gave him the "whatever" look. Fast forward to NYE.. He walks into the house and I remind him of our discussion and asked for lessons, with that same smirk on my face.

We played BCA 8-ball rules (call pocket, ball in hand on fouls) and I think the final score was around 30-5. Including a win where I played all shots 1-handed, and another where I would line up the ball and look at him while I was stroking the ball. I also made a point to tell him I was playing offense only. ;) Him and his family stayed over for the night, and the drubbing carried over to the next day. He couldn't get enough...

The thing is, he's actually a competent shot maker.... I'd love to have him on my league team, he'd be a great four handicapper...

**My bar did take a little damage. Just saw today during the final cleanup. (yesterday was re-coup and football)
Better than the table though!
