With the passing of Wade a couple of days ago, it reminded me of another excellent player that was was tragically killed in a car accident 10 years ago (he was 34 at the time of his death). Anybody have some good stories they would like to share?

tony ellin incredible bank shot

First thing I remember hearing his name are his incredible bank shots, with OB on the rail near the middle pocket, CB on the same rail but near the corner pocket - make OB in the opposite side pocket. Unbelievable.
Joe Tucker demonstrates these bank shots in some short videos on his site...

Both Wade Crane and Tony Ellin broke the balls like godzilla, Tony had a BIG break as well and played the game real well. I have played in tournaments with both guys. Glad I was able to see both guys play pool they were good for the sport.

Tony left us way to early I didn't know his exact age but I do know he was young and very talented on a pool table. He would still be taking down tournaments and on the action tables as well Tony indeed liked action.

Funny you mention Tony.....

Going through and watching all my old tapes/dvds/videos of matches i ran across the 1994 Challenge of the Champions. Tony beat Johnny Archer and then lost to Nick Varner in the finals. Tony had the match for the taking in sudden death against Nick but missed a 5-Ball i believe, and Nick finished the sudden death rack with no problem. Nick was lucky in this one.

From watching him play i wouldnt exactly say Tony had perfect fundamentals, but, obviously, he sure got the job done.
