Who cares.
The other day I said I was done with the forum & some of the "people" in it but once again compassion has compelled me to speak up.

Lamar, I care.

I met Tony when he was a 15 yr old fresh faced, clean & sober kid. There IS a good person behind the drugs. If no one in the world cared about all the people out there that have gotten themselves mixed in that stuff, the sidewalks would literally be littered with them and none would be recovering today. Luckily for them and us, most addicts have someone in their lives that care & try to help. Until the US Open, I had not seen Tony since he was maybe 17. I was away from pool for quite a few yrs and when I started coming back around pool, I heard the stories. I cared. Seeing him at the open was heartbreaking. He's younger than I am but he looks so much older. He's tried to clean up but he doesn't have a support group behind him to help him. People would rather help him find a pill so that he can play pool so they can bet on him. No one wants to help him through withdrawals or help him find a place that can help him.

Every drug addict was sober at one time and somewhere there is someone that cares about the person that is now a drug addict. I know Tony's parents. His mother is a sweet lady... I bet she cares. I bet his kids care. Lamar, maybe you only know the Tony of today....try to remember that there is a Tony of yesterday too and that some people do care.

Let us remember there will be a Tony of tomorrow as well. Perhaps like many addicted people, you must reach bottom to rise up! I've known too many people facing the same self inflicted fate. Some post here from time to time. It takes great personal strength to beat that insidious enemy. Some of us have more than others. Perhaps lamar25 has never faced one. Then again, perhaps he or she just doesn't care! Very sad.

Hey Lamar! You've been busted by the forum police.

Now I am really confused....in another thread someone asked if JAM & Keith were OK and Timberly & Deadstroke tried to come to their rescue, jumped down my throat, asking everyone to respect their privacy & not ask such a question. Now someone asks how Tony Watson is & Timberly & Deadstroke (in fact Deadstroke is the one that started this thread!!) jump right in and say they care. Why didnt you both ask people to respect Tony's privacy? Different rules for different......

When someone has a problem like Tony does, and being a pool player, it's very hard to find help from those that do really care. Like Timberly said, there's a lot of people in the pool world that would rather make money betting on Tony than help him get the help he needs. Being the player that he is, it's going to be hard for him to get the help he needs AND stay clean. Changing your environment is the key and how can he do that if playing pool is all he knows? I don't know Tony personally, seen him around in the past is all, but I've been in his shoes. The few friends he has left have probably tried to help him in some way but they've most likely just enabled him when they thought they were helping. And Lamar, there are people that care and you would be one of them that do if Tony were a friend or relative of yours. I hope he gets his life straightened out before he hits his rock bottom, because I know from experience that the bottom is different for everyone, death being the worst of all. Tony is the only one that can help Tony, but he needs the tools to do it. I hope someone gives him those tools, soon. Peace, John.

TONY is the ONLY ONE who can help TONY. Put the pipe down and love your CHILD for a change, not DOPE! All TONY has to do is ask God to help him JUST SAY NO!

I agree with that 100%. I personally dont know Tony but I've seen him play a few times and I was at that tournament the first night, and overheard Tony's running buddy talking to a few other people about what Tony did. Some people on here have said that he's a great guy and people have made comments about his kids and family. Thats a shame but it is all his fault. He has brought it all on himself. I know a guy Paul Turner which I'm sure plenty other people on here know. He had the talent of a world champion but he also got caught on drugs. Also, Jimmy Wale has cleaned up his act. He reached his hand out to god for help and he got it. It seems like Tony has not. Im not sure but thats what I'm assuming. Unless he tries to change than he shouldnt get any pity from anyone. So I agree with Lamar, who cares.

I had a brainfart

Hey Timberly,
Good to see you back....sorry, it took my brainfart to get you back....I liked your response!....please keep posting in this forum.

My intent with my 1st post (#2), was to bump Deadstroke's
thread....I also wanted some news on Tony.

I can sympathize with Tony's problem....as, I am a recovering alcoholic....I also agree with other posters that rehab only works if, the person has the mindset to get clean & stay clean.

"Have a nice day Timberly",
Lamar

Nice post! Your compassion is heartwarming.
Having been around this game almost my entire adult life and having spent 20plus years onth road, I was in the same situation as Tony. It is horrible!
Tony has people who care and have tried numerous times to help. It is though, ulimatlely, his decision to make. Nobody else can do it for him. He has to want it and want it badly. Yes, usually one has to reach rock bottom to do that, but let's be honest, it is not fair to take your family and friends down with you. They have tried and tried and finally realised that they have to detatch to a degree. It doesn't mean they don't care. It doesn't mean they don't love the "real Tony". It doesn't mean they don't hurt.
People say , We hurt the ones we love! BS! It just ain't true and it surely isn't fair. When we as addicts start to believe this, we are on our way to recovery.
Please don't be too quick to be too hard on the ones around him. If he wants a pill, he will find it,somehow, somewhere.
The life of a pool-player can be a nightmare we inflict on ourselves. There is, often one hell of a price to pay. We have to be acccountable for that decision and be able to suffer the consequences.
I did coke EVERYDAY for about 15 years and now I look back at it totally emabarassed and angry at myself for hurting people who loved me. I tried everything humanly possible to make them quit loving me and than Almighty God they didn't. They saved my life.
I too have known Tony for several years and I feel badly for him, but sadly, he has to want it and want it badly. I hope it doesn't take him 3 trips of rehab to get back into life.
One thing the man has always had is a lot of HEART and I hope he can draw on it when it counts.
