Took The Old McDermott Out For A Stroll Today

Very cool. One of my long time pool playing buddies has the version on the bottom.
The cue on the bottom was converted for me from a one-piece 1950s Titlist blank by Mike Pancerny in Detroit.

I hade it made to resemble the authentic Balabushka conversion at the bottom of this photo.

Doh!! How embarrassing!😳

I mistook it for a McDermott ...now that I look again it isn't even close. That is an amazing conversion.

An old teammate of mine (he`s 86 yrs old) and still plays pretty damn good.
He bought a brand new McDermott back in 1984, sharp point (even points) cocobolo 4 pointer.
I`ve hit balls with that cue, it plays pretty damn sporty. I really like the older McDermott cues (made in the 80`s) more then I like the newer ones.
Thanks for sharing your story Stay safe in this new year
Jeff

My daily player is a D15 that I bought used but not abused. Sent it back to McDermott for a refinish, new wrap, weighted to my specs and new GCore shaft with matching rings. It plays great. No one should ever hesitate to have McDermott refinish any of their classic C or D series.

I bought this C-14 model cue new in 1985, when the D-series cues came out.

I was playing with my second custom Richard Black cue at the time and I wasn’t in the market for a cue, but my old boss at the pool hall where I worked as a kid was a dealer and I was able to get it at a super-low price when the D-models became their current line.View attachment 618961

I originally was going to sell it but, after playing with it for a bit, I liked it better than my custom cue, so I sold the Richard Black instead.

This cue is one of the best playing cues I have ever played with and everybody who has tried it has liked it and many have asked to buy it. I have turned down numerous offers of over many times what I paid for it.

I sent it back to McDermott for a refinish a few years ago and had another shaft made for it as a spare. The original shaft is still in amazing condition and it plays as good as brand new. I can’t count the many thousands and thousands of games that are on this cue and I have used it to to break with many thousands of times, too.

I put it in my carrying bag today, with the original shaft, and took it to play and I was glad I did.

I haven’t put many games on it since I got it refinished and it was a pleasure to play with today.

It is around 21oz and it has a full 13mm, or a bit larger, tip and it drives the cue ball around very smoothly with minimal effort.

I can’t wait to take it out again as soon as I get a chance.

I think the C-series cues were the best they ever made.

Man, I feel like I'm following in your footsteps, I'm receiving a BeCue Naked Breakcue in a week or so, your reviews were a big part in getting that cue, Alessandro was great to work with, I'm just getting back into pool after about a 10year hiatus, I owned some David Tice custom cues that looked great and kept the sneaky pete, the first cue I bought when I started playing again was a McDermott C229Bocote cue, no points just plain Bocote with a couple of beauty rings anyways I respect what you think and you are an asset to AZ Billiards

Thanks HawaiianEye! Your post inspired me to pullout my C15… My first cue, used, bought for me 30 years ago by my father. With a few nicks it came with and a few I added as a kid. What a solid cue it is, I still love it. One of two cues that will be with me until they belong to my children. Here’s a question for anyone interested. Send to McDermott for a refinish or just leave it?

What did that set you back? I considering the same for my C15
