Top 5 One Pocket Players

Until KM writes, I'll post what I think my top 5 might be.. based on limited exposure.

Jack Breitkopf
Ronnie Allen
Grady Mathews
Strawberry Brooks (haven't seem much, but what I have seen is great!)
the Tuscaloosa Squirrel

Who would you rank as the top 5 One Pocket players of all time?

Ronnie Allen, Eddie Taylor, Eddie Kelly, Mike Corella, and Grady Mathews, of course!

Keith,

Who is Mike Corella? I don't think I've heard of him. Where's he from?

I actually recently bought a one pocket video with you and Harry Platis playing captains against Ronnie Allen, 5 ahead for $10,000 -- where Ronnie had to shoot one-handed every other inning!

I think that Grady has done more for the one pocket game than anyone ever has.

Mike Corella was one of the straightest shooters I'd ever seen. He ran 100's playing straight pool. He would run 10 and out playing one-pocket, and he was capable of running 6 and 7 racks playing 9-ball. He was a total offensive machine. He got killed down there in Florida, murdered.

I remember that match with Ronnie and Harry. We had a lot of fun. If you watch it closely, you can see Pretty Boy having a chat with Harry between every game. ;)

Thanks for your kind words, Pelican. I try to play all games.

Here's a couple of one-hole mechanics that should be included in the mix, Jose Parica and Cliff Joyner.

Got a cough?

Keith, I couldn't help but notice that in a lot of your pictures you are holding a bottle. Is that your cough medicine? :p

I'm sure that it is. I have an Rx for that my damnself... BURP ! (excuuuuuse ME)

.

I find it kind of odd you did not mention Efren in the top 5 of all time for 1 pocket. From what I have seen not a pro alive will play him straight up in the game atm. I know he is more known as a 9-ball player and might be overlooked when talking specifically about 1 pocket but do you think that Efren in his prime would not be at least a match for anyone on your list at their best?

Hey there, Keith. Where would you put Efren on the list of all time one-pocket greats? I feel like he's the best one playing today, but then again, I wasn't around to see the old-timers in their primes.

Jimmy, Efren is a great one-pocket player, no ifs, ands, and buts about it. He plays all games well, which is how I place him in the mix.

The people I named as great one-pocket players, I have seen and/or played against and feel they play the game exceptionally well.
