Top Level Snooker vs Pool?

You are living in la la land. I don't know why this is even a debate. Shane is a favorite over Ronnie in longer races in pool, and Shane has virtually no chance against Ronnie or any top 100 professional snooker player in longer races (not single frames).

Corey winning the US snooker championship is not even a good example. That's like comparing kindergarten basketball to the NBA.

Players like Chris Melling, Daryl Peach made the switch from snooker to pool, because they weren't getting any results in snooker. So, it's not like "hey what would happen if they practice snooker everyday". As with any sport, you have to dedicate your life to it and start really really young. Otherwise you have zero chance on the professional circuit.

PS - A better debate would be who would win a fight between Superman and The Hulk.

Spot on here and I might add loads of English league players could win the US snooker thingy.

Allison Fisher switched to snooker to pool.....why? This is right off of her website

Snooker Titles from 1983-1995
•11 World Championships ◦7 Singles
◦4 Doubles

•80+ National Championships

womens snooker had no money and no competition, she was not competitive in the mens/open

I agree, but the point I am making is Corey deserves a little credit don't you think? He had never played a snooker tourney before and won his first attempt (US championship at that). What you don't understand is we play pool over here and you play snooker over there. Apples to oranges but some people are too dense to see that.

Comparing women's snooker to professional snooker is not even fair. It's like you are grasping at straws. How many women are there in the top 100 on the pro circuit? Zero.
Allison, a great player no doubt, won those playing other women, not the top pros. You would be lucky to see a break of 50 in their matches.

Again. No one is knocking pool. Just that there is no debate in who would win in the other person's discipline.

Now let's get back to the Hulk vs Superman discussion. I say the Hulk has the edge.

I saw this discussion moving in the direction of "American pool player competing at Pro snooker" Trying to contain my hysterical laughter I thought a little grounded perspective was required.

Whatever happened to gazillionaire Quintan Han????

I remember him saying he was going to come to the states and take down our best pool players for tons of money....

When did that happen????

This IS a ridiculous debate and NOT because it's so OBVIOUS that snooker players are better.

There are pool tables and competition available for snooker players to learn how to compete at pool.

There are not snooker tables available for American pool players to practoce on and competition for them to learn how to compete on.

You had two people try to make a legitimate attempt at it. Jim Rempe and Steve Mizerak.

Maybe they personally had games that didn't translate well.

That's not to say that all of the best pool players can't.

Corey played in ONE event. My guess is that he would do much better if he had the means to dedicate himself to it.

The snooker tables over here, (with few exceptions) use different felt and are cut tighter than traditional Riley snooker tables.

The snooker table based game that is played over here is golf.

If you REALLY think snooker players are so much better than pool players, bring them to hard times and have them play jimmy or Ricky some golf on big bertha.

Now THAT's a gaff game, but there are many pool players that would be the favorite on american snooker tables setup for golf over snooker players.

It's a different game.

POOL is a different game.

This gets so tired. Get over yourselves and the STUPID belief that snooker players are so much better than pool players, it's just not true.

IF snooker started surging in popularity in America like pool did in Europe, you would see competitive American players, including some conversions of top pros.

No one who is successful at pool is going to take a chance on moving to Europe and dedicating themselves to snooker on the hopes of making big money that just might not materialize, just like gazillionaire isn't making a trip to America any time soon to try and take off American pool players for huge sums and according to Han, he had more money than he could ever want, so he has the means to come and do it without having to worry about going bust.

Didn't Hann offer to fight everyone in America as well?

Actually simply based on facts and statistics ex low level pro snooker players (failed lol) have won world championship pool events and no pool player has ever won a snooker event (or qualified lol)

PS QH is a qualified nutbar.

When is it time to simply admit that pool players have no chance of moving over to snooker and being successful?

I just keep on fearing that people think this is what I and a few others in this thread are argumenting and it
just isn't, we pretty much all agree they cannot.

The discussion is, can Ronnie beat Shane in a long race of 8-Ball or can Shane beat Ronnie in a long race
of snooker. The chance of either happening is very slim at best, but it is still my belief that Shane will beat
Ronnie before Ronnie beats Shane.

I have given quite a few reasonable arguments as to why I think that and pretty much the only counter
arguments have been alon the lines of, you're crazy, Ronnie (pro snooker players in general) is god, snooker
is just way too tough for these silly american pool players and their bad technique.

Ronnie cannot break worth a damn and will not learn to do this any time soon because it is just damn
hard to break the balls really good. He might be able to pot any and every ball he sees but he will break
dry or scratch on the break so much more often then Shane it will be a walk in the park. Shane will
simply never lose a long race, it is just not going to happen. Jumping, massé, kicking balls in and all that
other stuff alone make it impossible for Ronnie to win, the break just makes it completely so.

These are not skills learned over a few weeks or months. Learning to pot balls and play decent safetys
in snooker if you allready shoot as straight as Shane does, is.
