Pretty impressive from such a small pool of players. (And I'm not just saying that because all of my ancestors are Nordic! 🤪).

nice to see tom storm getting enough matches to be rated. he was the first nordic player to come over to the states in the 80s, also the runner up to souquet the year ralf won the world championship and a member of the two first mosconi cup teams.

kevin z placed 5th in the world 8-ball championship, lost to the eventual winner dennis orcullo. has won the national snooker championship about 10 times.

but in general, and for a long time now, finland is the big brother to sweden and the other nordic countries when it comes to pool.

tom was usually sporting a tan, and the video above is quite a runout.

but if i'm betting i prefer a player with no tan (= more pool practice). and i don't care for players that have low golf hcp either, for the same reason!
Nice out. Tan, not so much. :D

This weekend Petri Makkonen won the Nordic 10-ball Championship, a yearly event with 64 players from Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Petri won 8-7 in the final against Tianfang Zhang. Semifinalists were Marcus Chamat and Senharip Azar.

The event were played in Gothenburg, Sweden. Unfortunately many of the best on the top 50 Fargo wasn't playing.

i was railbirding a little, as i live close by. yea field was lacking some top names. zheng can be a beast, i've seen him play a perfect set of 8-ball on those tables

I was impressed by Zhang's performance, even though I was quite angry of myself after my performance against him. Lost 8-2. He was no doubt the better player, but I didn't perform my best in that match.

Who really impressed me is the two youngsters from Sweden and Finland, Walter Laikre and Riku Romppanen. Both 15 years of age and play like pros

for sure, riku is wise beyond his years and laikre is an excellent shot maker. he plays snooker too i think. the problem on the swedish side has been that quite a few promising youngsters have quit pool at ~20 yrs age. i hope this kid keeps playing

I totally agree with you. I hope every teenager/20+ who have a great talent and lot of potential chase the dream. Hopefully a handful of them eventually can make a living of this wonderful sport.

I always tell the young guys to give it all when they can, but if they do not succeed within a couple of years, they need to realize that it was not meant to be. Get a job, settle down and just travel for a few large events a year.

I completely understand those who quit. It is real tough to make a living of pool, and a high fargorating wont put food on the table when you are 35 and dont cash in events.
