Tornado Recovery Sale

Look like a Cuemaker safe place is under his lathe during a tornado.
Maybe beside storm damage, they could claim theft by Mother Nature.

Gene's mom lives in southern Wagoner. She was called shortly after the tornado. They were shocked, because the weather wasn't bad at all, where they live.

One of the boys had called before the tornado to say that he wasn't liking the way the wind was bending the trees over and making so much noise, but it was assumed he was just responding to the first real storm in a good while. What a shock to have a tornado hit right after his call! He was a great help for the next couple of days, too. He made calls for help and to find things needed, like a temporary storage unit, etc.. Some kids are worth their weight in gold!

Tornados are terrible things. Mother Nature has more power than any bomb. I was born and raised in the tornado belt in southeast Alabama in a place called Enterprise. I have seen the effects of all too many tornadoes, but I was fortunate enough to have never been personally affected by one.

If you recall, a couple of years ago, a tornado hit Enterprise High School, killing 8 students and wounding many others. My niece was missing for several hours, but was found, scared but OK. I went back down last year in October for Homecoming. How strange it was to see an area that was once home to 1300+ students completely gone.

Gene, I hope that none of your family was hurt in the tornado. Count your blessings. Best of luck to you.

Joe

Actually, he would have been at the other lathe, which wound up trapped under the wall, when the tornado hit. The next day, when the wind changed directions and the wall blew back up and released the lathe, it fell to the floor, messing it up pretty good. A few hundred bucks later and I think he's got everything all fixed back up, though.

He still has the other shed, although much smaller, to work in, temporarily. The roof of that shed has to be fixed back up, though. Right now, everything has to be covered with a tarp every night and if it rains, he can't work.

It will be nice to finally have all the wood out of the house, so the grandkids can come back over and run and scream through the house, though!!! That's his favorite game with the grandkids... chasing them through the house with everyone screaming. He's a pretty fun Gramps!

Insurance doesn't look like it's going to pay very doggone much. There's wood and metal (from the old building) to be disassembled, because it's gonna have to be sold to raise extra money for the new building. To HAVE it built is going to cost $14,000-$16,000. To build it will cost $10,000-$12,000. That's not counting the electrical work that has to be done. Insurance is only paying $7,800 on the building. There's a lot of money to be made, before it can be rebuilt. The main objective is to get the walls and ceiling up, then the electric lines run.

If you're serious about helping, you might get taken up on that! The offer is definitely appreciated. We might have to have a "Disassembly Day" to take the old stuff apart and we could buy everyone pizza and pop in exchange for their help. :)

Weekend bump for some great people. ftgokie, rep for you and your willing to help.

You should design a limited run cue (say 10ish?) at a higher price and call them the Crown Twister or something like that. Obviously this would be a 'on a list' type item, but i'm sure some collectors would love to have a piece of history that helped to rebuild a great cue company.

That's a great idea and I'm definitely going to do some serious thinking about it.

Has anyone done anything similiar and have any ideas or tips that may help?

I appreciate that and may have to call on your offer. We took a little bit of time today to look at some types of buildings and their cost. Of course, what we can do ourselves will save some serious bucks.

Sounds good. Just gove me some notice since our schedule is as hectis as im sure yours is...

Also, I have a few ideas on building a cue that I have not seen and want to run them by you to see what you think. I dont build cues right now, but am trying to get a good lathe to start practicing on.
