Tough Low Deflection Shots

As I really want to understand poolplayers needs, I am conducting a survey. Please answer the following question as best you can.

"What shots do you find to be the most difficult (masse and jump shots aside) with a low deflection shaft (USS, Ob's, 314's etc..)?

CueTable.com diagrams would be best to illustrate.

Thanks.

I get an unwanted and unpredictable semi-masse effect on long distance shots at med-soft speed when using side spin and a below center hit. It's not bad w/ the OB-1 or 314, but it throws me off completely with my z-2 shaft. I pretty much have stopped using that type of shot altogether with the z shaft.

The slower spin shots where swerve dominates.

I don't know how to use the cue table diagram thing, but the toughest for me are 3 and 4 rail banks.

shots

The shots that I have the most problem with are the force follow and the shots with no english straight cut shot..Since getting my 314 2nd gen shaft I seem to under cut the shot or over do the force follow shot.If for instance the cut shot If I put the ball back up and use english I nail the shot [any type of english] but I seem to lost something on the reg cuts shot. The force follow shot my problem is the stoke I put on the rock, I usually put to much and seem to miss adjust for the shot,if I let up then I'm short again.Any help is appreciated.

Lately it's the shot on the 9-ball that I find most difficult. It doesn't seem to matter which shaft I use. :D

This is the only response I've seen that (almost) makes sense to me.

Because swerve doesn't completely overcome squirt in the majority of shots, it isn't really "visible", so we tend to think we're just compensating for squirt. But swerve is a huge component of every sidespin shot and is much more difficult to estimate and compensate for than squirt alone - I think swerve, not squirt, is the biggest challenge in shotmaking, and the least acknowledged.

But reducing squirt (and thereby increasing the net effect of swerve) still makes the overall squirve adjustment less complicated, because it doesn't increase the amount of swerve you're dealing with or increase the difficulty of estimating it, but only changes the net amount of adjustment. By reducing one of the variables it makes things "generically" easier - the usual unfamiliarity with a different adjustment is only a temporary difficulty.

This is like the old argument that some squirt is desirable because it "counteracts" swerve. But I don't buy that - squirt hides swerve but doesn't reduce it, only making it less apparent and therefore harder to learn to adjust for. I don't think it allows more shots to be aimed without adjustment - it just shifts those shots to a different part of the range of adjustments.

I really can't think of any shots playing with a level cue that can be pulled off with a conventional shaft that can't be done with a Predator.

But... I do kind of wonder if Predators are subject to more miscues at the extreme edges of the cueball than a conventional shaft. I am used to mine, and I really try to stay away from extremes spin shots, but when some players switch to Predators, the first thing thay notice is they miscue more often using draw and extreme side spin. And it wasn't just with one tip type either, and they were good players.

I had a couple of thoughts about this wonder if the lack of weight at the end of the shaft causes the tip to slide off the cueball a little easier?

You should play that great game 7-ball :D .

I hate low deflection shafts. I can't juice the ball the same way. I love loading the cue-ball up with spin and with a low deflection shaft I can't do it as easily.

This shot has show to be a problem with the low deflection stuff. Rather than just cutting this ball in and getting the 2 rail shape, you end up over cutting it and banking it.

Only if you aim the same way you would with a regular shaft.

That's not a problem with a low-squirt shaft; that's a problem with any new shaft. If you changed from a low-squirt to a high-squirt shaft and tried this shot, you'd probably hit it too full.

JUMP SHOTS!
And a shot where I am jacked up on the rail and need to play bottom where there is a slight angle to it.

Man I can jump the sh!t out of the ball with my 314.

Here are the two that I hate. And yes I know you shouldn't use left on a straight in shot. I was only trying to make a point.

The outside English seems to bother me more than the Inside English.

Joey, at the speed you need to hit that shot I'm betting it's solely the low squirt - I don't see how swerve could be a significant factor at that speed (unless you can make this with much less speed than I can).

Anything jacked up or over a ball. With my schon or joss shaft, no problem, with the 314-2 have to be extra careful. Haven't figured out why though.
