I am looking to pay all 8 players in a 14.1 league I just ran.

I would like to know what you think is the best percentage of prize money breakdown from first place to last place.

Thanks

Kevin

Well the first thing you gotta do is take about a thousand out of your pocket to add to the purse. You know how pool players are. They all believe they should make money off leagues ...even last place oughta get their money back and then go from there.

Oh yea....i forgot to add that you have to fill out a financial report stating where every Las penny went that was paid in by said pool players.

Each player has paid in 135.

I just want to break down the prize fund between all 8 players in the best way possible. Enough for first place and enough for last place so that we can keep all players coming back to the league regardless of where they finish.

Thanks

Bit odd that you are trying to pay all of them. But if you are, I would do 1/4 of what they paid to 7-8, 1/2 to 5-6, 135 for 4th 175 for 3rd 238 2nd 330 for first. I think that about adds up to 1080.

Players should come back even if they got nothing, who expects to be paid for last place? If they quit, it's their own issue.

Why in the name of God would you pay out last place?Top 1/4 at best.

One reason would be if you want the players to stick around for the whole season and finish their matches. Too often players in a round robin will simply walk away with two or three matches left if they see they have no chance. Then you have to make a tough decision about how to score the matches they did play.

I think it’s reasonable to do what you’re doing.

I’d look for a fixed amount to drop for each place, e.g., drop by $40. First: $200, second: $160, third: $120, etc. Find a starting point and a “drop-by” amount that works.

In the chart below the approximate percentage difference between places is listed at the top. Choose the one that looks best.

If you can use a spreadsheet you can look at a lot of different options.

The constant step mentioned above is one possibility. Here is a step of 20 that adds to the right number:

65
85
105
125
145
165
185
205

Another is to have the steps larger and larger towards the top, such as
30
40
60
90
130
180
240
310
which has steps of 10, 20, 30.... and adds up to the correct total. You could reduce the steps to 5, 10, 15 ... and have a tighter range.:

75
80
90
105
125
150
180
215

with $60 left over for a pizza party or trophies. I'd go with this one. Make sure to have at least one pepperoni and mild sausage.

There are formulas for all of these of course, but a spreadsheet will get you there faster.

1 - $380
2 - $225
3 - $150
4 - $100
5 - $ 75
6 - $ 60
7 - $ 50
8 - $ 40

Total is $1080 which is ($135 x 8)

Mine was pretty much the same...
30% for 1st $324.00
20% for 2nd $216.00
15% for 3rd $162.00
10% for 4th $108.00
7.5% for 5th/6th $81.00 x 2
5% for 7th/8th $54.00 x 2

Personally, I like Bob's idea of some money not paid out, and a party provided for the players at the end of the session. 5% ($54.00) should be enough to provide pizza and beer for 8 people. I also support the concept of paying the entire field to help sustain the league.
