Tournament question?

TD's

I have found that many directors of small handicap tournaments are very fair. After they see me play they usually come over and lower my ranking in the middle of a match and apologize for ranking me how they did. ;)

I can say that I honestly see your point. But, by the same token everyone else unfortunately is right. Even in the APA which is my stomping grounds right now, if your competing in the higher level events, they will adjust your handicap throughout the tournament be it up or down but, it's usually up. The penalty for sandbagging as they say is diqualification, and further disiplenary actions.

But, at any rate I can definately say it sucks when playing someone who is clearly as skilled as yourself and you have to give up weight.

That sounds like a fair tourney to me. Actually it is the 1st tourney that i have heard that would do that. Where is it i would drive past all the others to play in that one.

I think you got a break to begin with

You came into the tourney an unknown. I don't care if everyone in the room knew you, if they hadn't seen you play in five years you were an unknown player in terms of speed. SOP around here for an unknown is to give them the highest rating for a few tournaments and lower the rating down after it becomes obvious that you aren't passing through to steal a quick buck and are playing to your best level.

You made it to the final even with your new rating. Sounds like it was more than fair. The director took a chance of annoying all of his regulars by ranking you low coming in. Had you stolen the tourney with a low ranking he would have had a lot more than one man angry. His only mistake was not ranking you at the top to begin with.

You also say that you took up golf and nobody in the room had seen you play for about five years. Not nearly the same as saying that you had not been playing.

I used to go to the local pistol competition about once a year and take first place in the toughest class. This annoyed the range owner who set up the matches especially since he tried to make the matches difficult. After laying out at least a season I could have shot as an "A" shooter, or even a "C" instead of my Master ranking. How silly would that have been?

Just wanted to know if any of you guys/gals have ever had the tournament director move you up in rank in the middle of the tournament. It happened to me saturday night. I have never played in this tourney before but, half the room knew how i played and the tournament director asked around because he had never seen me before. Everyone said that they haven't seen me anywhere in a long time because i have taken up golf for the last 5 years just exactly like i told him. The game kinda came back to me and i played well. Well enough even though they ranked me up i ended up in the championship game in which the other guy was playing as well as i was and ran out the set to beat me. The guy that did that was ranked 2 positions lower than me! Has this ever happened to you guys/gals?
