Cue deals work like this:
If you have a cue to sell me, it's not worth very much.
If I have the same cue to sell you, it's worth top-dollar.
So many people are guilty of that. Also the trade scenario of "my cue is gold, yours is shit"
Knowing what you are trading up is the key. You’re almost always better off selling directly to another player who plans on playing with it than you are selling to a dealer, who is just planning on turning it around and making $ on it.
The only advantage in selling / trading to a dealer is they are generally always willing to give you something for it whereas holding out to try to sell it for a higher $ to someone planning to play with it will be much harder to find.
I guess this question has many interpretations... If the question is like used car values, then the trade in (dealer) is always less than the cash price (private sale).

That means they will give you less money for a cue you sell them, and sell you a cue for more money, as compared to the cue with a private transaction. Perfectly reasonable because you are dealing with a business that presumably has less risk than an individual, and you are more likely to find something this dealer has that you want.
