Traditional wood shafts making comeback?

I have tried several people CF Shafts, verdicts was So What?

Maybe if I was World Class Player CF might be that little something special.

World class players get good $$$ for playing with Cf shafts it's all about money, if they went back to wood Cf shafts wouldn't be so popular.
I would stay with mine. I tried to go back to the maple shafts last weekend and just did not get the same power and spin with the maple shafts. Maybe it is just me but the maple was not as easy to get shape with.

It's been written at least 10 million times on this site....it's the Indian not the arrow....I swore I would never own a CF shaft and I don't.....I own a Becue all CF Cue!!!! Why wouldn't I? The greatest player in the known universe uses Becue, right? No...., there are so many great players in billiards today and amazingly they all use different kinds of Cues, tips, chalk, ect., Why? Because some are very tall, some are very short, some like super soft tips and some like super hard tips, the one thing they all have in common is they play great with what THEY like to use, I got really pissed off when I picked up an SVB cue and wasn't able to run 5 racks in a row....I'm in my third year back playing pool after more than a decade of not even picking up a cue, I love my Becue cue, it just feels right to me, the advantages to CF are the ability to build Cues, Shafts that play the same, maintenence, never warping, and ......having the greatest player in the known universe endorse your cue.......

I used to be like that 20 years ago. Today, I really dont want to deal with it. I still have a box full of shaft maintenance products...
Now I'm waiting for a good synthetic tip that will hold it's shape and grab chalk without scuffing forever 🙃
Really, all I want is to play carefree.
I have been using the Bulletproof Recoil tips and they do all of that, I use the Taom V 10 chalk and find I only need to chalk about every 5 shots, I am using the Morakami tip scuffer about once a week to 10 days and there is not enough dust from the tip to measure, haven't shaped it since the first time I verified my dime radius, I'm using their green tip which is their hard tip, and the chalk retention is phenomenonal, haven't used the blue(soft) or red(medium)

It’s crazy how fast this thread spiraled back into the debate on cf or ld or traditional wood. My original post was simply if people are seeing a rise in people shooting with traditional wood. I firmly believe it’s just preference. I was just curious if I was seeing something or not.

I don't see a rise in the traditional wood, I believe the preference is for cue companies is to sell you new products.......I'm still pissed I couldn't run 5 racks in a row with the SVB cue.........

Wooden cues will disappear the moment room owners get composite cues for house cues; they should, as it will save money in the long run.

Once these are gone, when a new player decides to get his first cue, he won't even consider wood.

Not around here. If you want to do statistics, count at big tournaments, like league nationals. I think among pros, CF is approaching 50%. There are a few top players who have switched back, but that small number is overwhelmed by new adopters.

You're lucky to shoot with a Becue.

I've shot extensively with a Becue and they hit nothing like the carbon shafts that are out on the market. It hits better in my opinion. Not as stiff to me.

They are wonderful cues. The one I happened to have played with was their Gen 1 cue, white shaft and all. I think it was when they were a "kickstarter" company.

Wood shafts will never disappear totally but as old farts like me and others fade away they will be seen less-n-less. Most younger gen players are all-in on carbon.
Agree with you on this. In my league, I'm middle age and can't recall any player younger than 30 show interest in my custom cues. I'd estimate 80% of them play with carbon shafts.

I think custom cues will survive okay but they'll probably start coming with carbon shafts in most cases.

Many people still want something unique that can't just be purchased off the shelf by the thousands. And I think we're starting to see the emergence of a modern custom market. I've recently learned about Wheat State Custom Cues, making custom carbon shafts and even a full carbon jump cue that is really really good (currently trying to procure one for myself). This is where I see the market going, modern custom cues.

Even my current playing cue was purchased to bridge that gap. I wanted something unique that wasn't just an off the shelf standard cue and I wanted it to be locally made. I settled on a small batch run of 12 cues that Jacoby built for Seyberts. It did come with a single wood low deflection shaft, but I then added a pair of 30" Jacoby Black v4 shafts to play with. The wood shaft has yet to hit a ball but it's nice to have since it has matching ring work at least, but it stays at home in my spare case.

It's the best of both worlds for me, small production run from a local custom builder (Jacoby's shop is about a 90min drive for me) with great carbon shafts and screw on extension that looked great to my eye.

My original post was simply if people are seeing a rise in people shooting with traditional wood.

I would say no. Seems like most of the new people that come in are going with CF. There's not really any reason to go with wood at this point. Maybe price but the gulf there is narrowing, too. People that have been playing with wood for a long time are big on the "feel", but if you never played with, there's nothing to be nostalgic over.
Probably will always be some people that want a "custom", but personally I'm not in that category. I don't care about a custom cue any more than I care about a custom golf club. To me an expensive custom cue is like an really expensive car. It looks great but I'd be paranoid about taking it to the supermarket and somebody rams a shopping cart into it. I'd rather have something useful I don't have to worry about that much.

Really good point, hadn't thought of that.

I am very blessed to own a Becue cue, it's a great company that is constantly advancing CF in pool products, just tried the new Prime II 12.0 shaft and it is my favorite, I was using the Engage 11.8 and loved that shaft, I saw the Billards Corner review of the Prime II on YouTube and I can say the spin you can get is ridiculous, love the taper on this shaft too, they were kind enough to make a custom extension for me on the Natural Born Naked cue by adding the Damascus rings, I love the way my cue hits and don't see me using another cue, here's a couple of pics

Becue, Go-custom, Infinity Diamond and a couple others all seem to be from the same factory/production line. Their break and jump cues certainly seem that way.

I have been using the REVO for several years.. Used a wood the other day and like the feel. Maybe go back to it for a while.
