The members inducted into the Hall Of Fame should be treated with dignity and respect. In comparing why some members should have been inducted before others only demonstrates "bad manners preceded by bad manners".

Congratulations Earl Strickland---you are always exciting to watch.

I agree 100%... Dignity and respect... in fact... give them back 100% of the dignity and respect that they pay to other people! I would call that just perfect!

Also: The Hall of Fame is just another part of a big entertainment machine called "Professional Sports". Since this is ONLY entertainment (in the big scheme of things), then we certainly should hash-over who gets inducted and who doesn't... That's one of the functions of the HOF... to generate talk and discussion!!

Congratulations Earl! You excelled at billiards in spite of getting a big fat "F" at personal interaction and sportsmanship! Now what are you going to do for the world to excell outside of billiards?

I have to agree with this statement. Even though Earl maybe an enquired taste, he is and always will be one of the greatest players of all time. Needless to say, he has his good and bad moments as we all have seen, but he still is Earl Strickland.

Congratulations Earl!

If Ear's personal skill are so bad, then why was he elected team captain for Mosconi's Cup?

Obviously some people who have less clout that those on the cup team (less clout as in anonymous persons on a message board) have a lot to say, without bringing much to the table, so to speak.

Should the people whom Earl showed no respect for give Earl the courtesy he didn't give them?
I know two local pros who hate his guts b/c he was absolutely classless and bullied them during their matches.
They really couldn't care less if he made it to the hall of fame.

If someone is cool with me, I'm cool with them. This was not the case as you mentioned, I have no problem with these guys saying face to face that thy dislike the guy.

The problem arises when people who are hiding behind the veil the Internet provides to come out and attack the guy, when in fact, nobody knows who they are, in some cases.

Pretty sure Johnny Archer was the Captain.

Earl's certainly had his moments in and out of the sun, but he remains one of the greatest players in the game's history and is totally deserving of election to the hall (as is Hopkins, IMO). C'mon, this is pool, not polo. Congratulations, Earl!

Earl Strickland (age 41): Earl "The Pearl" Strickland was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. He holds numerous national and world 9-Ball titles. He has won the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship five times, more than any other player; only one person has three wins, no one else has won more than twice. He won the WPA World 9-Ball Championship in 1990 and 1991 and holds nearly 100 tournament championship titles, having appeared in the final round of tournaments over 300 times. In 1996, he ran 11 consecutive racks of 9-Ball (in tournament competition), winning one million dollars. Though known almost exclusively as a 9-Ball player, he has run 408 balls in Straight Pool and won the Riviera Pro 8-Ball Open in 1999. He was team captain for the victorious U.S. team in the 2000 and 2001 Mosconi Cup competitions."
