When I put in incerts into shaft blankes I use a pair of pliers to seat the incert nice and tight. I also notice that I burr the outside jut a little. Is there a better way. Do they make a tool for this. If, so what about stripping out the inside threads. Thanks

SHAFT INSERTS ??

I thought it was clearly decided long ago that a pin to wood interface as used in a 3/8 x 10 or a Radial pin joint was the best hitting joint ever.
So why would anyone want a cue with shaft inserts? :)

I made my own tools for this. I took a piece of aluminum and cut it down to a rod just smaller than the OD of the insert. I then drilled and tapped it to take the thread of the insert. I glued a pin that fit the insert into the tapped hole. Thread the insert onto the pin and then thread it into the hole.
I can now grab the aluminum with pliers if I want and the insert is not damaged.

Put a chuck in your tailstock and in that put an appropriate pin...put the insert on the pin and turn the insert in by hand...after gluing...;)

This is how I do it.

There you go thinking again!

Hit is just as subjective a choice as ever.

You still find players that prefer piloted joints.
Many are way too young for it to be because that is what
they grew up with.

And, there's always the Carom crowed that live and
die for threaded wood tenons

Dale<pay your money, take your choice>

I use a screw dog which is just a screw with a nut on it,

Willie
There is no such thing as the best hitting joint as long as people have different preferences.

I took willie's reply to mean "I don't know".

How many times have you heard it said, Mike, it is all in your head?:D
I never bought into that as I never had much talent as a player.
Sure are a lot of stories about top road players shooting their best when the chemistry was right.
I wonder if they would have been better or worse without the drugs.
I know I sure enjoy playing pool a lot more after a few beers.
