Trouble with drag draw with english

Tough shots

Looking for advice to improve results in trying to hit a tough shot. Or is it not tough in your view?

I posted in main forum...probably should have posted the question here..

Thanks for any assistance/comments.

Maybe it's just too tough a shot for me to try to shoot.

Many shots are difficult for me though I've been playing for almost 60 years.

It's always because of my fundamentals or lack of disciplined execution...

Agreed. Tough shots are tough.

Missing probably happens for me often before the shot is shot. Maybe re flaws in fundamentals, but more likely, a lack of confidence that translates to a lack of best effort execution. Just want to get the missed shot over with..

Actually, few shots on the table are not difficult for me considering the hoped for total result of pocketing, and precision shape. Any lapse in concentration or failure to respect the shot, usually bites me in the butt.

And that's a deserved result.:o

..thanks for your time and thoughts

That's a tough shot I frequently practice. It's an important one to have although there are sometimes no-english alternatives.

Work at it as a progressive practice shot. Start with a short shot and gradually make it longer but only if you have the current distance mastered. This explains how progressive practice works, which automatically adjusts the distance for you:

In most cases this shot is used from fairly long distances to make a ball close to a pocket and kill the CB in that area. Consequently, there is seldom any need to use english. Maybe less than 1% of the time. On the rare occasion it might be desired you'd have to hit the ball slightly harder to get a bit of movement off a rail. Either way, normal rules of english apply but with less swerve as long as a level stroke is used.
IMO drag shots are fairly easy to learn. Any decent player usually gets a feel for how to hit them pretty quickly. If you're having trouble with them find someone competent at them and have them demonstrate. It's really not that difficult of a shot.
