Last night, Earl The Pearl Strickland and Johnny The Scorpion Archer walked through my front door and put in several hours on my pool table. Not your typical show doing trick/stroke shots, but giving me real, personalized high-intensity lessons. I'm not likely to forget the event for a long time (because I recorded video of all of it).

For lots of the details, check out my blog entry at this link:

In a word, it was TotallyFreakingAwesome!

Oh, I can draw the ball, of course, but my draw fades fast when I get 5 diamonds away from the object ball. They showed me how to deal with that.

I have that same problem so.... what did they say about it?

sounds like an awesome night someday maybe I'll get that lucky.

Here's what happened when we worked on my draw shot.
It was one of the more memorable, and funny, parts of the evening:

Good luck!

Wow! That's some pressure right there. How do you like Earl and Johnny holding down your body as you shoot a long draw shot? I would have jumped the ball off the table and probably hit Johnny in the head with my elbow and poke Earl in the eye with my pool cue as I turned around to apologize to Johnny. I would have ended both of their careers at one fell swoop.

I love your setup with your pool room looking over the beach. Too sweet. One day soon I hope to live on the beach with a similar setup. Awesome choice on personal in-home instructors as well.

That's amazing! I'm sure something you'll never, never forget. Are you good friends with them, or did you pay them a pretty decent amount for their time?

I envy you for your experience with 2 of the best players to ever play pool. I can't imagine having Johnny and Earl playing on my table. I've seen them both play many times and i'd love to just play a game with either of them and you had them both on your table......Awesome experience!

So they were making sure you didn't drop your elbow? They don't shoot a power draw without a slight elbow drop, do they?
I'll bet they drop it to the table...

That is definitely awesome Mike. Thanks for sharing the experience! Btw, so how many of the long draw shots did you ended up shooting/making with your 2 anchors? :D

Johnny is asleep in my guest bedroom now! :D
So please try to keep it down!

He and Earl had a clinic at Stix in Rancho Cucamonga yesterday afternnon, and an exhibition at Dave & Busters last night in Ontario. Mark Cantrell has set up all these shows, across the West Coast. It's a nine day tour of six cities from San Diego to Seattle. Mark contributes on here as bfdlad or something like that.

I went out and watched the show at D & B. Earl does a great exhibition! The crowd loves him. And he loves talking his sh-t! It's like all that stuff he can't do (or say) in tournaments, he can do here. So he lets it all hang out and he's hilarious. Earl performs some stroke shots that are simply remarkable. They have to be seen to be believed. The man still has one of the biggest and best strokes in the game.

I went out there to pick Johnny up and bring him back here for a documentary he's shooting for the History Channel this morning. They needed a poolroom to shoot it in and I arranged with Chad, the owner of Mr. Lucky's in Torrance, to shoot it there. It's only 10 minutes from my house. I'll let you know when it will air.

Johnny and I had an interesting conversation during the one hour drive back to my house. I'll tell you about it later. Let's just say there is one American Parica never beat! I gotta go wake the Scorpion now! I hope he doesn't bite.

Hey Jay! Is there a schedule available/posted for the stops Johnny & Earl are making here on the west coast? I'd like to check out one (or more ) of the exhibitions. Thanks in advance!

I know it's San Francisco tomorrow, and Sacramento the day after. Then on to Tacoma and Seattle. I'll see if I can get the correct schedule today from Mark. He should have posted it on here anyway (??). They've already done San Diego and L.A.

Do a search function, on Earl & Johnny. Mark posted the whole schedule last week.

Looks like D & B would be a "gold mine" for these exhibitions. Challenge matches would also go well there too.

Exhibitions/trick shots yes. Challenge matches no.

The D & B crowd would walk out on a challenge match after game 2-sorry. Ive seen it happen at pool rooms, where customers were real excited about a match they stumbled on, they watch for 5 minutes-then get bored and leave or go back to the bar.

Just got back from Mr. Lucky's where Johnny taped a segment for Modern Marvels to be shown on The History Channel in October. I'll let you know when the exact dates are. The segment is on modern day marksmen and Johnny is a definitely one of them. They filmed for four hours this morning with Johnny explaining what it takes to be a pool marksman.

He explained the different cues used today like the 'break cue', 'jump cue' and his 'playing cue', and why all are different. It should be an interesting part of the show. He then demonstrated the thought processes that go into running out a rack of 9-Ball, while he was running the balls. And of course he made a perfect run out.

Earl and Mark met us there about 12:30PM and now the three of them are en route to Mountain View, CA for their next pool clinics tomorrow at Shoreline Billiards.
