trying to eliminate a buzz in a predator shaft when shooting extreme english

I have a three precat 314's, a couple Cat shafts, a Mezz 700 and some OEM '96 vintage Schon shafts. A precat 314 I just bought has a very distinct buzz when shooting more than a tip off center, right, left, high or low, if you shoot with a more extreme english it buzzes. Everything on the shaft, the collar, ferrule, tip, (new tip was installed), is tight. The ferrule measures 12.62mm.

I have three schon cues and I have tested this shaft on all three and it buzzes on all of them. None of my other 8 shafts do this. I've read alot about this and think maybe the shaft can be reconfigured, (take the OD down a bit) and change the harmonics of it and possibly eliminate the buzz? I like a 12.5ish tip so I have some room to reduce this shaft. Is doing this a crapshoot or what. The seller was more than gracious and said he'd refund my money but I'd like to keep it if it's possible to get the buzz out of it.

I've read alot online about this issue but have been able to find very little about if it's possible to eliminate the buzz and if so, how to do it, thus the post.

Thanks for any replies.

Its possible that something in the front end is loose. The front end is hollow with foam-like material that could be loose. Also possible that some of the lamination is separating and buzzing. I don't think turning it down is going to stop it. Might put this in the ask a cuemaker section too.

similar problem on pre cat some 20 years ago. I wouldn’t call mine a buzz. But hit didn’t sound or feel solid sometimes. Ended up sending back to predator ( long story) over a month later got it back . They said there was nothing wrong. I have 2 of these shafts and the other didn’t feel/sound the same. Fast forward 20 years, after hearing another story of this and what they did to fix it . I removed the ferrule. Used gorilla glue to reattach. It’s good now. I did leave a small scar on the ferrule though.
I own one predator cue & 3 shafts. I won’t buy anymore of their products.

Sometimes that buzzing sound is caused by a shaft needing to be refaced so I would add that to the list of possible causes to be checked out. You would never expect that to be a cause of a buzz but I've seen it a number of times.

I have also seen joint collars that weren't glued properly cause a buzz as well. You can check for this yourself pretty easily by looking at the joint end of the shaft and if you can see any even microscopic "crack" between the joint collar and the shaft where it doesn't look like it is fully secured/filled in by glue then it could possibly be a cause of the buzz and probably needs to be fixed in any case.

I had a cat 314 that started doing this. The whole ferule and tip broke off taking ½" of the hollowed out center wood about 200 breaks later (this shaft at that time was only being used as a brake cue.)

After knowing how the ferrule is attached I’d never break with it
But ???
That would ask another question do they still use this type mechanical connection?
And do others?( manufacturers ?)

The way to get rid of the buzz is BUY A REVO !!!!!
😂

Yes. They do and so does Mezz. Mezz uses solid wood and lightens the front end much the same way. I would never break(not 'brake') with any LD wood shaft just for this reason.

The seller offered me the ability to return it if I didn't like it, a stand up guy. I sent it back to him. Thanks for the replies.

think i'll start a thread about what tip is best........:unsure::geek:
Please don't ....
I want to know which tip is best.

That time of the month again...
