Hi Guys,

I know this good player, and he advacates on using this twisting motions with the grip hand to enhanse the English. Does anyone use this and does anyone know how much it helps if it helps at all?

I also have a guy on my team who does it alot, but he misses almost all the time when he does it. I don't plan on starting, but I like to learn as much as I can.

i do it sometimes to get english on the cueball, as you can aim for center cueball and swoop on the final stroke to the left or right of the cueball and get english. I know Francisco uses the swoop or tuck and roll method on his final stroke, rather then the pivot before the final stroke. I do suggest one just stroke where they want on the cueball for english though, but if you can pull it off its great for english.

Don't do it. It will lead to inconsistancy in pocketing balls.

I know, I did it for the first 10 years I played.

Do not do this EVER.

Does the same player jab and snap back his cue on a draw shot? I have seen many players that do one will also do the other. It works for them but don't do either. It is a bad habit that does not give consistant good results.

If you want to learn how to spin the cue ball, check out the top carom players, like Sayginer, Sanchez and Caudron. They don't do that funny stuff. Straight back and straight through. Keep things as simple as possible (but no simpler, as somebody once said).

Buddy Hall has advocated the "tuck and roll" method of applying english forever, or at least on his Clock Method tape and when I asked him about it in Las Vegas two years ago.
