Hi all,
I would like to have a Sneaky Pete style cue with tung oil finish and juma sleeved over ss 5/16x14 joint.
Forearm should be old growth straight grain maple and handle wood something not too porous maybe?
No inlays required, just a juma Hoppe ring over a black butt plate with bumper, simple black rings at a,b.
Anyone who does this kind of work?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Get a flat face joint you have something similar to a one piece badass cue.;)

not a very good finish

i would be very careful with tung oil as a finish for pool cues. i personally have never seen one that did a great job of protecting the wood.

Doesn't Prather's 1916 series have this kind of finish? You can probably get one from them. I don't know if you can get the juma joint from them or not.

I've used Birchwood Casey Tru - Oil with great success.

I like that stuff as good as any oil finish I've tried. I used to buy it by the gallon to mix with turpentine for sealing wooden boats. I've used it on everything from musical instrument necks to canoe paddles. I have a paddle I made years ago and it's been to Hell and back with me, spending days on end in the water, pushing off logs and rocks when needed. It has its share of dents and scratches, but overall it's in pretty good shape with most of the original (10+ coats) finish still intact. My first cues will be finished with this product. It's very tough for an oil finish.

I spoke to Mike Cochran right before his passing...about a hand rubbed tung oil finish on an old scruggs sneaky, he said it's the only finish that he'd have on his playing cue...and from there he recommended me to get with Bob Frey or Proficient Billiards and Scott Sherbine...

I'm still planning to get it done...with Bob Frey...one of these days...unless I do it myself...
