Turning Stone Classic 9-Ball Open -- Winners and Runners-Up

Turning Stone XXXV is coming up next week. Normally at about this time, I repost my list of prior event winners and runners-up and indicate which of those finalists are scheduled to return for the upcoming event. That, of course, requires seeing the player list. But the player list has not been posted on Zuglan's site. Someone on Facebook says he spoke with Mike about this, and Mike is not going to post the list this time because "someone last time wanted to run an illegal online calcutta" using the list.

So, sorry, no advance look this time at which prior finalists will be returning.

Edit -- I see that Shaw and Van Boening, winners of 13 of the last 17 TS events, are the only two players named on the hotel/casino's website listing this event. Whether they really plan to attend, I do not know.

I can vouch that Jayson will be there, but don't know for sure about Shane.

The player list is up now. It looks like 7 players who have been finalists in at least one past event are listed to be there this time (TS XXXV): Hernandez, Immonen, Morra, Shaw, Sossei, Strickland, and Van Boening.

Here, after TS XXXV, is an update to the list of winners and runners-up for the Turning Stone Classic 9-Ball Open events. Jayson Shaw won for the 8th time (he also has one second-place finish).

The 35 Turning Stone events have been won by 16 different players. Eleven players have won once, Bustamante and Immonen have each won twice, Van Boening and Archer have each won 6 times, and Shaw has won 8 times (all in the last 14 events).

The 35 events have seen 27 different players finish second. Twenty-one players have finished second once; Sossei, Immonen, Morra, and Archer have each been runner-up twice; Hatch and Morris have 3 runner-up finishes apiece.

Four of the event winners (who have accounted for 17 wins) and 7 of the runners-up (who have accounted for 9 second-place finishes) played this past week. Their names are shown in red.

The 70 finalists' spots in the 35 events have been filled by 35 different players. Seven of those 35 players (who have accounted for 26 finalists' spots) played this past week.

With Shaw's undefeated win at TS XXXV, here's an update to the counts of winners who were undefeated versus those who came from the one-loss side:

• 16 undefeated (events, without the Roman numerals, # 2, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, 33, and 35)
• 19 with one loss

The average score in the final matches is now 13 - 7.1.

And, still, no final match has ended at 13-0, 13-1, or 13-12. The most frequent score of the final match is 13-11, with 8 occurrences; 13-7 is next with 6 occurrences.

Turning Stone Classic XXXVI starts in one week. It looks like Zuglan, like last time, is not going to post the player list much in advance (see post #82 above). But his tour website does say that Jayson Shaw, Fedor Gorst, Mika Immonen, Skyler Woodward, Johnny Archer, Thorsten Hohmann, John Morra, and Billy Thorpe are scheduled to compete.

When’s the last time Woodward played TS? Seems like he’s always registered, but never attends. I think he once said, “I don’t know who signed me up for it. I know I didn’t.” LOL

Good point. I don't see Woodward's name in my lists of streamed matches since TS XXIV in August, 2015. Maybe he'll surprise us this time.

Seems he was at that first one in your list

Yes, that Aug. 2015 event is the most recent one where I watched him in a streamed match -- the Sossei match, which was on Saturday, 8/22. But I'm pretty sure he didn't play 7 matches in the tournament that day. :)

• 20 with one loss

The average score in the final matches is now 13 - 7.25.

TS XXXVI was the first of these events to have a hill/hill final match. That leaves 13-0 and 13-1 as the only scores at which a final match has not ended.

The most frequent score of the final match is 13-11, with 8 occurrences; 13-7 is next with 6 occurrences.

With Gorst's win from the one-loss side at TS XXXVIII, here's an update to the counts of winners who were undefeated versus those who came from the one-loss side:

• 16 undefeated (events, without the Roman numerals, # 2, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, 33, and 35)
• 22 with one loss

The longest streak of tournament wins with one loss is 6, event numbers 18-23. Streaks of 3 from the one-loss side have occurred twice, including the 3 most recent events. The longest streak of wins without a loss is 3, event numbers 15-17.

The average score in the final matches is now 13 - 7.29.

13-0 and 13-1 are still the only scores at which a final match has not ended.

The most frequent score of the final match is 13-11, with 9 occurrences; 13-7 is next with 6 occurrences.
