Turning Stone Info request

Hi all. I've never been to this event and wondered if there was also an area with tables for some of us spectators who may like to indulge in some friendly play? :)

I'm considering a weekend journey with the wife and would love to get some pool in also. :)

When I was there, the only tables were the 16 in the tournament arena.
Not sure if any of the bars in the hotel have tables (bar-boxes).
There are pleanty of places to gamble though. On cards, not pool.:D

There is a room in Oneida which is about 5 miles away.

There are some bars within driving distance, a few miles from the Turning Stone, that have pool tables. Some unnamed pool champions go there to enjoy alcohol on the offs.

As well, there is an EXCELLENT pool room in Albany, about a 20-minute drive, The Golden Cue. Next door is Joe's Grille. You will love this spot. Check it out.

As far as the alcohol, I know that it has been said you cannot drink in the casino anymore, as they are applying for a liquor license. However, why not bring your own alcohol and keep it in your HOTEL room where you may drink in privacy. Just a suggestion.

Albany is over 100 miles and about 1.5 - 2 hours away from Turning Stone. The city of Syracuse is about 20 minutes away.

In Syracuse:
  1. Cap's Cue Club - 1895 Teall Ave (Joss Tour stop)
  2. Michelle's Billiard Cafe - 197 Dorwin Ave

I am not sure of any others in Syracuse, but as Dana pointed out, End Rail is the closest.

You are right. I was thinking of Syracuse being the close city to Turning Stone. There is something about the Joss Tour events that I keep getting mixed up, and I am not quite sure why. :o

Don't forget Salt City Billiards in Syracuse, another pool room that I enjoyed when I was in Syracuse.

Hope I got Salt City Billiards name right, but if I don't, it won't surprise me. :(

LOL... Didn't mean to sound like I was being a correction cop. :D I figured you were talking about Syracuse anyhow.

You are right Salt City Billiards is in Syracuse. It's actually what they call North Syracuse. Close to Cicero.

Just a word to the wise, be very very careful drinking and driving around the area of the casino. The police are aware that we are there and for some reason they are out in abundance. Last year a very known pool player got pinched, it was not a fun time. So all, please be careful. I would not like to hear someone got pinched again.

I'm going to head over and sweat matches Sat and Sun -- is there a roll call of AZ'ers thread already going? Am I correct in understanding there is no late night pool action on the tourney tables at Turning Stone? Too bad, with the talent they have on hand for the event. I've not been there before....

My wife and I are going to try for Sunday. Hope to see some AZers there.
 
Hotel rooms

I am trying to get a hotel reservation for Saturday night and am finding that it is difficult as anything close is booked up. Just a heads up for those trying to stay overnight.

To that end, does anyone know of a decent place to stay that isn't more than a half hour away?

you best bet is Syracuse - even though it is further (about 20 minutes), at least you will pay less than $100 - otherwise, you will have pretty shabby places for no less than $110+. good luck.
