Watching the stream brought up two questions please.

One, why are the racks checked so much there vs other tournaments?
It seems like there is so much time spent over the years with racking, and it really doesn't matter who was playing.

Second, why are you allowed to touch the 1 and manipulate it after the rack has been lifted?

It's because it's rack for your opponent with the wood rack which is just asking for problems imo.
 
Wood racks have been this way since the beginning of time. From local weekly events to pro events. I’ve seen good local players almost come to blows over it 20 years ago in regional events.

The magic rack solved all these problems. It’s 1000 times better. Even counting its dead ball “problem”.
 
I like the wood rack because it causes more variance in the game. Especially in a winner break format because it makes it less likely that people will string together multiple racks

Have you never racked before? Sometimes you can fix a ball that is not frozen by brushing it with your finger. I do it every single time with the magic rack, and it almost always works then. With wood racks, it can work, but only some of the time.
 
Those black Diamond triangle racks used for several years now are polycarbonate, not wood. Whether they present more or fewer racking problems than good wooden racks, I do not know.

I just cannot agree. There is little randomness with those template racks. The pros play a shot on the break and make it a high percentage of the time. Incredibly boring.
 
What I noticed is that in the matches where Jason was down (not many), his racking seemed to be a lot slower than when he was running racks and his opponent slipped in a win. His first match with Gorst was a good example, you can see Fedor pacing at the other end of the table waiting. I guess it's like taking the player time out, you can break a little momentum using it. Or maybe it's just his way of getting into his own head and being more methodical. I also notice that Jason's run-and-gun style also gets more deliberate and methodical when he's battling in a close match. There were a few discussions from other players on the rack and it does add a little time, but it's way way better than what it was a couple years ago. I remember a few players really being a problem with that back then.

Seems like every year, Mike Zuglan does make small tweaks to the rules that eliminate some of the nit-pickiness that happens in prior tournaments.
 
Nobody wants to give a slug or at least get called for 1. And If they give a slug after 5 minutes of racking-they tried…plus don’t the pros want someone to rack for them? Being slow is a simple way to protest racking.

I still prefer loser racks, and enjoy displacing ugly ones. But I won’t intentionally rack bad. Most players prefer being their own rack bitch now for some reason. I’m lazy and don’t want to be the rack bitch. Sometimes my true feelings come out.🤫
 
The one ball loves to stick in the rack on the plastic diamond racks. They also don’t have any reference line or anything to make sure the rack is crooked
