I forgot to post this yesterday. Born on the same day as me but I came 26 years later.
Born in Reform and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, he spent a lot of time right up the road in Birmingham.
I first saw him play in my hometown of Birmingham in the early-mid '70's. I had only seen my dad and
a few uncles try to play 1-hole, but as a kid I lost interest because of the slow play, and the fact they weren't very good.
And then I got to see Squirrel play a real game of one-pocket, and even though I never took up the game I was amazed at what I saw.
After that whenever I heard he was here I would find a way to go watch.
I know many of you remember him and hope you enjoy this article.
Rest in Peace Squirrel.

Sad indeed. The life doesn't lead to old age so we tend to bury pool legends comparatively young. Glad he lived as long as he did but looking around it is hard to find many legends of my younger years, no idea who if anybody is left. Buddy and ? Somehow hard to call guys younger than me legends!

From a bygone era in the history of pool, the likes of which we'll never see again.

Some of the BCA Hall of Famers of the last generation are still around. Ray Martin and Danny DiLiberto are both in their mid 80s. Dallas West, who is about 80, is still with us. Jose Parica, Nick Varner and Jim Rempe are all in their early 70s. Allen Hopkins must be about 70.
