TV near a pool table at home

I sorted a stand and a TV during black Friday. I wanted to get a TV stand that had enclosed doors but due to the size of TV I got that proved difficult. The tv will be a few feet away from the table and the stand is higher than the table itself. I have only had the cue ball come off the table a couple of times when I am putting too much power in my break and sending the cue ball to the long rail with English back into the rack in 9 ball. I dialed that down.

Anyone had issues breaking a tv with a pool ball flying off the table? Just curious.

Thanks
Brent

There is a danger of breaking anything near a table when a ball is sent off the table. I would wall mount it further away.

Curious why you didn't wall mount it? Is it not a flat screen?
Good question. No studs down there. I do have insulation screwed into all the concrete walls down in the basement. So the entertainment center will be what the tv sits on and give me storage for A/V stuff.

Why not get a ceiling mount and mount in on one of the upstairs floor joists or frame between the joists. It's going to be better all around to have the screen up high as you will be standing most of the time vs. sitting like you do in your living rooom.

Most LCDs these days are so light that 4 to 8 1/4" toggle bolts would be more than adequate for wall mounting. If it is concrete, some 1/2" lag shields would work.

This TV will be used when I am not playing. Essentially part of my basement is not being used on the south side of the table so I am putting a couch and tv over there. I think may just break on the other end just to be safe.

Yup. I busted a TV about 6 months ago. Wall mounted. A ball (hit fairly hard) was barely hopping down the table, hit an object ball and then the end cushion **just right** to launch it into the TV. Dead. Had to replace. Probably 1 in a 100,000 shot. Just my turn I guess.

Got a new TV, put up in exact same spot.

If the size prohibits enclosed doors on the stand, perhaps you could modify the stand another way.
Roll-up bamboo shade, available in any size and several wood tones, colors or prints. Light weight and should afford enough resistance from fast moving airborne objects.

Good luck and enjoy your new screen.

I'll look into that Jimmy.

Bummer man. Did your home owners cover it or no?

Reverse sides…….start breaking from the foot spot end instead of the kitchen.
Now the TV is behind you & if still worried, cover it with a blanket when playing.

Put it at the head of the table.

Old Rodney Dangerfield joke:

I had a fat girlfriend.

How fat was she?

She was on the Richard Simmons exercise show jumping up and down and my tv fell off the stand.
I had a girlfriend who was so fat that she was standing on the corner one day and the cops came by and told her to ‘break it up’

When she wore high heels she struck oil.

I never have any luck with women. Woman told me to come on over there's nobody home. I went over. There was nobody home.

Dangerfield could get the audience going like few others.
