It's been a while since I saw a shot like this. On current tournament tables, it's not possible in a corner pocket. I've never seen it in the side before.

Why not just leave them alone?

Because the rule says if they are supported by other balls rather than by the table, they are considered pocketed. Neither ball was over the flat surface of the table.
