Deniis Orcullo and Oliver Ortmann had the two best records against their opponents going into their match. I think it was particularly telling that btoh of them played so well throughout and managed to win their spots. Congratulations to both of them and especially Oliver.

Its kind of hard to be comparative with won/loss records when many players were fixing games for the bank the 8 bonus.

I doubt that either of these two participated in that. With that in mind they were still the best two players in the tournament. Notice that they focused on winning their cards and not the bank distractions. Besides that you don't know that "many" players were fixing the games. We only know if two so far in one match as far as I could read it.

Out of something like 500 games played in the first round there were only 30 banked 8 balls. This doesn't sound like nearly the level of "match" fixing that was alluded to. Onl top of that it was reported that there were four matches where missed banks cost the player doing the banking the match. So I don't believe that anything but a very small minority (two) of the players did any deals with their opponents to bank the eight and/or bag games that they would've won by shooting the 8 straight in.

The two players who played best won the event.

I am not saying that these two didnt play the best & have no doubts about their level of play. Just saying that you can't compare won/loss % from this tournament as a whole because of the actions of a few.

I'd like to add that Eric Hjorliefson also did an outstanding job, winning more matches than anyone else and taking out some big names along the way. If he lived closer to all the big tourneys instead of Winnipeg you would see him at the top a lot more. At the 2004 US Open he dominated Archer and pagulayan in their matches and also beat strickland on his way to 9/12th. If he qualifies for the IPT he will be a threat at any given tourny. Congrats to him and of course to Ortmann and Orcullo, it goes without saying that they are more than deserving of their entry into to IPT

Yup, these are two of our game's elite, and it's great for pool that they are now IPT members.

Ortmann and Orcollo are two that have not competed much on American soil, and I, for one, am pleased that so many American fans will now have the opportunity to watch these fine players.

Hjorliefson is a great player that will be playing on the IPT soon enough, if he doesn't qualify for this year than he will almost certainly qualify for the 2007 tour, he sure took down some big names at Hard Times and I know alot of players/fans who had never heard of him will know who he is now. Do you know if he will be playing in the MA qualifier?

Hopefully we see Wu make it to the next qualifier as well, it would great in many ways if he could make it onto the tour.
