I just want to take time to thank the players at the Mosconi Cup for everything that has happened thus far. It's comforting to know that, under great pressure, we all can miss shots and make mistakes. It had led to some very exciting play thus far.

I also want to thank all of of you for the many outstanding kicks and safety play. I have to grade this as A+ so far. Some extraordinary kicks have been made and balls pocketed off of them.

The crowds and the camera work and commentary are the best I have yet to experience. Keep up the great work, folks.

I guess that's it for now. I hope I get to watch a lot more of the Cup action. So far it's been a treat.

This is the first I've heard of the McGonosconi Cup.

What's all the fuss about?

Regardless and whatever, if you're a REAL pool fanatic, there is a $43 added tourney in East Japip this weekend. Click www.wishiwereinyorkhall.com

Tom, thanks for the thread and your post. My take after two days at York Hall and watching ten great players do battle under extreme pressure is that good old "lucky" 9-Ball remains the best game for pool on television. Yes, this simple little game with only nine balls and the cue ball is PERFECT for TV! We can put on tournaments forever and you will never see two racks the same. And the craziest things happen over and over again. The roll of the balls can be mystifying at times and create unique situations that truly test the skills of these great players. There have not been that many simple or straightforward run outs. Mostly thrills and spills along the way.

One thing I love about 9-Ball is the closer you get to winning, the closer you get to losing at the same time. Think about it for a second, that's where a lot of the pressure comes in. Matchroom has got it right! Leave this game alone, let whatever happens, happen. Lucky nine ball or the nine on the break, it's all good imo. The fans love it, and that's what we want and need, to build an audience. I credit Matchroom for not bending to pressure and changing to Ten Ball, with all the restrictive new rules. I just don't think it will "play" as well on television. 9-Ball on a tough table using alternate breaks is a formula that works! I would say the same thing about the U.S. Open and the long races to eleven with winner breaks. It works just as well!

There is an old saying that is appropriate here, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

P.S. If you were watching you might have noticed that even with these short races, both sides had chances to win each match. It often comes down to who can make the big shot under pressure and that's the way it should be. The best team who shows the most heart and courage will win this week, not the luckiest one.

It's so evenly matched with 10 of the best players in the world. Anyone can win any match. Comes down to a bit of luck, who handles pressure best and some other x factors

Great competition played fiercely but in good spirit

Not only have the matches been exciting but let's face it, when it comes down to production values no one broadcasts pool as good as the Matchroom events are done, period. All the right graphics; instant replay from several angles; multiple cameras with great camera work,, some of the best announcing in the business; well done trailers at the beginning, leading in and out of breaks, and at the end. Seriously, a major network couldn't do it any better.

Hats off to the players and the broadcast producers as well.

Jay, I wish I was there, but I'm not.

I guess I'll have to settle for the second best thing. Like some of you have said, "It''s great sitting at the computer and getting a first class production right before your eyes."

I love the way the players are brought into the playing arena. The music and the high five's get the crowd going before the first shot is even struck. It also, like they need it, pumps up the players, even more.

These are the type of things the game needs. I feel as close to the action as I can, without being there.

All of the commentators have been, spot on. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
