Fun week so far!
9ball (Monday) - I've been working really hard making good progress and I managed to do 3 wins of my 4 matches. But I blew my 5th match. I had a sh!tty day and I told the team captain I can't be first. I needed some warm up time, I was super stressed yesterday and I actually didn't even want to be there. That's how bad it was. Ironically, I smoked the first game then made only 2 balls after that. womp womp womp :embarrassed2: For the most part I'm upset that I didn't stand up for myself when I said no (to the captain) I meant no. I've played the first match in all but one previous games. I wasn't ready and I needed to unwind.

Later my friends tried to teach me 10ball and I won my first game. Cross cut the 5 in to a bank (cue was at the left/foot of the table, 5 was in the kitchen back to the left/foot of the table) into an 8 and then the 10. And that's exactly what I called. The whole bar was blown away. It was a hoot. Wish I had the camera with me. All that said. I'm not clear on the rules, but it was fun.

8ball- (tomorrow) I've only played one match and lost it (about 6 weeks back). But I'm feeling better after a good productive day at work. And an even better one tomorrow.

So far I've got to thank you guys and ladies for helping me through my wrecked nerves to sweaty palms. But how do I let go of a wretched day at work and focus. Even after I got home at midnight I was stressed stiff as a marble slab. I tried to express my feelings and got blown away. We all go through it right?

Thanks for letting me vent.

My only advise for stress, no matter the cause, is "Don't let the bastards get you down."
sounds cliche' but if I think about it while getting stressed I sometimes actually start to giggle.
try it, it might work for you too . . .

Pool is your outlet for the stress you feel from your job. View it as your relief from the pressures of work, and enjoy the times that you get to PLAY, win or lose. You're fortunate to have found this wonderful game to enjoy in your free time. It does feel good to make a nice shot and win a tough game. The more you play and the better you get, the more you will enjoy playing. Have fun and keep your head down! :)

Pool's great for stress, exactly because it requires focus...and that's exactly how you let go of work, focus on the game. To play good pool, you have to focus in complete present tense and let go of the ruminations of history in the mind, quieting it. Peace!

Sorry for my apparently unnecessary stance tip earlier. When you put your cue together you're unemployed, not married, & don't have kids. There is no other world until you undo your cue. If you know you're going to play first most of the time go to where you're going to play for lunch & spend as much time as you can on that table. If you can't go there go to a similar table. What ever else you do don't rush to the match. Drive slow, walk slow, & take your time. Don't ever 'feel' rushed. If you're part of the team you have to be prepared to try to do your part whenever you're needed. including going first. In my first league I played last or 2nd. to last every night & did not get home sometimes unti 4:45 AM but I was there before the 1st. match started in case I was needed to go first. Sorry if it sounds like I'm lecturing, I'm not I'm just trying to give you some insight that might help. If you really don't want to play 1st. then tell your Captain that you can't handle going 1st. & that he or she should not count on you for that as you can't play your best going first. If the captain keeps putting you up 1st. ask them to honestly tell you why. Then you'll know where you stand. Hope my long 2 cents worth helps & good luck.
