Two Of The Biggest Paydays On Valley's

Smoking Aces and White Diamonds I believe have the best payoffs to the players in pool in the USA. They are on 7' Valley Bar Boxes. Weather it's Diamond's or Valley's, holding tournaments in large poolrooms or sports bars is the ticket to help the players make a living. Cut the middle man (promoter) out until someone can secure enough sponsorship to have a national tour. I said on here 8 years ago that this is the only way to go in pool right now, and still feel it is. Johnnyt

White Diamonds has not got much for the winner of the tournament after all it is low $ entry 128 man field. I do not know what first pays but it is not all that much. The money at White Diamonds is in the calcutta. For a player to get that they either have to buy themselves or at least half. Top players with a chance of winning go for 1K plus most of the tip top players 2k and always some goe 3,4 and more. So they are what getting 6 to one on the money for the blind bid player. So not sure how many players came out ahead but I bet it stops around 5th,6th place. So we got probably 20 name players going home stuck 6 making something. Tell me how this is the answer to pool's problem.

What was the entry at the other tourney was it like 2k. How many of that super tough field went home stuck. How many were staked I do not see that format making house payments for all of the players in the field. Great event love the venue and the thought doing bigger events buy they cannot do that every week for 20 weeks of the year.

The answer to pools problem is distribution on TV/cable somehow with real advertising and outside true added money. The entire field has to be paid and the top half have to make income level make a living money after expenses. The bottom half needs to at least break even on the trip, the entry the travel etc. This is the golf model the tennis model maybe even fishing but the whole field has to cash and they cannot be playing for entry fee's trading money around watching SVB and a couple of others take the cream all the time. Don't get me wrong the top player should win and should get the most money but there needs to be more $$ and it needs to pay alot deeper. Until there is added money the top American's will not put out the work to get paid because there aint enough out there to be worth the work. And believe if American's thought it would pay to play pool more of them would work at it and SVB would have some company.

It may not be the answer to every pool player's nightmare but it is THE BEST weekend BAR TABLE TOURNAMENT on the planet.

Until, there is cable/TV distribution of pool making money for the advertisers, I'll try and support this event and other events like this.

Joey buddy, I know it is an awesome event but it is too far from my house so I will not be there this time. I took a couple of players once who both had a chance of winning. One of them got 5/6. We had another good player with us and 3 of ur crew made the second day. We came out stuck on the trip. We had a great time, the venue was good the calcutta and the Chris Miller show it was all that but it was over a thousand miles. If it was closer we would be there and firing at it but we would know we were gambling, taking a shot at making something.

If there was such an event every weekend 20 or 30 weekends a year do you think the show could be maintained, could locals come-up with their part to pump money into the event. Here in Indy we have 2 bigger bar table events the Midwest Classic at Brickyard Billiards, 20k+ in the Calcutta+ tourney spring and fall. We get lots of great players and it is a real good time.

The major difference between the White Diamond/Brickyard events is the number of tables/players and the pockets on the calcutta gamblers in Louisiana. Big money in that calcutta, actually huge. The White Diamond event is awesome they got big bidders and they got Chris Miller that is a lethal combination. That combo attracts a huge number of great players and it just pumps up higher and higher.

I wish you luck this weekend Joey.

Good analysis
But many players in these 7 footers BB are not really top notch so paying all 128 so they break even is unrealistic .
I mean last thing they want to attract are social players like me or burger flippers who think they can make more bucks playing pool than flipping burgers
So yes the quality rather than quantity of field is key. One problem is there may just be too many so called pro players in the sport who wants to earn a living from the sport. There are just too many players that the sport cannot support so it may be necessary to whittle down and only have good payouts tourneys for top 50 or top 100 in the country . Those players who do not make the cut should not be allied to play in such well payinb tourneys.

If you all want to watch top notch players, on top notch equipment, with a top notch Calcutta go to The Carom Room in Beloit, Wisconsin this weekend. Or watch the stream. They do it right like it should be, good for pool. The Calcutta will be HUGE.

Smoken aces is great place they hold few good pay out tourneys they hold a 20 dollar entry 5000 added tourney every year pretty great pay out

Apparently gambling as I have stated many times is the way to save this game. A little over 6 dimes to the actual winner but the Calcutta is worth over 67 large.

I think there needs to be more tournaments like the amateur open at SBE but allow anyone to play and put all/more of the entry fee into the prize fund. Short BB races allow anyone to win and low entry fees allow everyone the financial ability to play. These two details attract large player fields resulting in large payouts.

Paying the whole field is ludicrous. That doesn't even happen in golf. Only the top 60-70 each week leave with a paycheck for their actual play. That's half to a little less than half of the field typically.
As for the original topic...idk if its the savior for pool, but its certainly fun to watch.

This weekend, two players that went for $300 & $400 each won over $12,000.00.

That is some serious return on your dough.

I had a great event despite losing two close matches. I was satisfied with how I performed in this event. More work to do.

And no, I do not think the pool players could support events of this sort 20-30 weekends a year.

Well not necessarily at White Diamonds, but anywhere. 128 players, start real early in the morning and ending late for 3 days.

Hears big ? Did Jamie get a nice chunk of change out of the calcutta or next nothing? Not sure what he sold for in it?

Here's one that's quickly catching them all in the ole calcutter. It my just surpass next time. It's been around for 3 events. The first one paid 12k for first, last yer paid 15k for first, this year right at 21k first, and next year, I'll make sure it's near 25k. It's all about the hustle.

The Big Tyme Classic.
Held once a year around March
Houston, Tx.

If you are producing an event for TV, about the last thing you want is a large field. With 16 top players you can saturate a lot of broadcast time. Accu-stats has shown that 6 players is plenty for an audience-sponsored event (the Make-It-Happen series). If you have a million dollars per event then maybe you can open it up to 64 players but most of the play will never be on TV and so it is just wasted time and effort and tables and officials.

If I had big money today to sponsor a non gimick event, there would be a field of 32 and it would be seeded. What are you saying Mr. Jewett ? I doubt T.V. wants to cover much more than the quarter finals anyway.

In this pool drouth there is a handful of charismatic players at the higher levels.

I agree.

Anpther idea for a made for tv event is this. Have cameras on every table bug the focus of the program is on one main match. In between racks, or during a time out you highlight makor shots taking place in other matches. The viewer feels as if he is following the action throut the room. Think how golf is featured on tv but with more emphasis on one particular match though.

The commentators would have an important job on briefly letti g the audience mnow whats going on. For example, the main match is Shane vs. Mike and while they are racking and checking the rack the commentators say something like this "Lets go over to table 4 and take a look at Skylar and Bergman, it looks like its 4 to 4 with Justin breaking." The match they switch too has alreaxy had the action take place so the announcers know that a ghighlight moment is going to be shown. In this casethe highlight moment is Justin hooking himself behind the 6 and having to kick and although he makes a great kick he still leaves Skylar a shot and the out. The commentators say "wow that was a crucial shot at 4 to 4 but Skylar looks to be able to handle it from here, lets go back to the main table as Shane is ready to break while leaxing 5 to 3.

The audience was not only entertained during the boring rack and re-rack session but somewhat left wanting more. Now they are invested in watching to see what else is going to happen. Did Skylar get out?

It depends on the TV. The World 9 Ball Championships used to get about 60 hours of live coverage on TV. But not in the US.
