My perspective of past/present....

Too help promote the sport, we Now have 2 different games/Similar in our World....To the general public NOT.

MANY Have SIMILAR names....but different rules and totally different race lengths.

Are both these entities supporting the sport/players the game itself ??????????

Boy Howdy, the public again is cornFused.

Nah it's just another 8 ball game in a bar, wait it's only ten balls.

On a similar comparative/mindset....

Yeah........I'd rather watch the US Open tennis Majors finals/mens best 2 outta three sets.... 3 outta five it Takes too long.

It's happening again in the world of pro pool.

Two pro entities....doing ''their OWN thing''.

Not For the Sport Thing.

The race to 4 format is a disgrace to the game itself, the shoot out is what that is.

Not trying to join together to create a Lust for One Game.... is hurting ''them both''.

Why does the Word US Open WORDING.... now, of all times, seem to be abused, used reused if feels seems/IS diluted/diminished because of this.

How many Roland Garros tournament names are there in pro tennis?

Why can't we ALL just play ONE game with one set of rules for the One Public Viewer that has NO clue and START....STAR....Begin.

ABC Wide World of Sports was the last True broadcaster, it's LONG past due to put aside ones Egos/Name/Cash flow etc and ''do it for the sport''.

This could happen NOW.

Covid has helped allot.

Getting to first base.... then introduce MORE.

The non player must be led to water.

I never played Football, but enjoy the show.

Tennis tournaments have different tie break rules if the final set goes to 6-6. Win by two, extended race and then standard tie break, standard tie break at 6-6, extended tie break, extended race and then extended tie break. It's also somewhat arbitrary whether Men's Doubles is best of 3 or 5 sets. There are even tournaments where one "super-set" is played, and round robin events where a single standard set is played against each opponent. If anything tennis is even more innovative.

We need standardized rules for sure. I'm not so sure about standardized formats.
 
Tennis, set lengths are ALL the same.

For this pool game to make it.

It has to Crawl first...hasn't walked for over 50 yrs.

Not always.

Snooker does pretty well on TV. Match lengths vary depending on the status of the tournament, from a race to 4 in the rounds of a regular ranking event to a race to 18 in the final of the World Championship. They also have a "shoot-out" ranking event with a completely different format.

The World Championship was galloping in the 00s when the winner's prize was $100k and the final was a race to 17. Now that Matchroom have both the World Champinship and the US Open, plus an impressive line up of other events - the game is walking at a fairly brisk pace.
 
well - - - it's like this Island Drive,
Bin Laden and Obama have similar goals, and they both have very subtle tactics to achieve their means.
Figuring the headlines of these entities has its game about it...
...these10 ball, 9 ball rackatours are making a go of it even though it's tough, still, to define, grasp what the ultimate billiard game will be or is, for most.
but, yeah, covid was a blessing for the politicly savvy, scrupulous operators.

This whole "why don't the pool promoters and organizations work together" line of thought just makes no sense whatsoever to me. I just have one question for you...

All these organizations and promoters etc are businesses in business to do best for themselves, not charities to do what is best for someone else. With the fact that they are businesses and not charities in mind, why on earth would you possibly ever expect them to do anything other than what they feel is in their best interests?

This is just another example of somebody who thinks they have a right to have an expectation about what other people do with their time and money, and that makes no sense to me either.

I agree with that there are better things that could be done for the sport, so please start a charity so you can do those things then, because that is what charities do, not businesses. Businesses are supposed to do what is best for themselves, not somebody else.

They won't be forced to work together but there will be a degree of working alongside each other. The World 10 Ball Championship in 2021 piggy-backed the US Open by being played just before it - ensuring easy travel for the top players to take part in both events. I think there is room for other high profile 10 ball events and even an 8 Ball World Championship to be scheduled before or after other major Matchroom events. The top players would be lining up to enter.

I totally agree....but business saying how the game should be, as opposed to the PROVEN FORMAT...... dbl elim races to 11 winner breaks, IT WORKED/ successfully more than 4 decades, created HOF players.

If it wasn't for Barry Hearn, would there even of been a HOF after the Wide World of Sports years.

How did the PGA ''all'' get on the same page.

You have too involve the players/industry to create the right product....remember....B.H. already did!!!!!!!!

Golf....
Every major plays 4 rounds of 18 holes, with the cut off after 36 hole's.

The cup size on the putting surface is the same, grass different.

Like cloth differences, all in the sport.

This yo yo....see pic below.....has never gone anywhere.

The WPA and the world bodies do talk to each other, for the game.

Being out there, it feels like my past, now that I'm playing again, and improving.

I'm very annoyed.

If you can't tell :).

For the games sake, get at least One U.S.A. POOL GAME....Any game.... lookin' as good as snooker productions do, then move on too other ''stuff''.

Like speed snooker....;)

Too funny. People just gobsmacked by Matchroom and their 9 ball BS. Just finished one of the best events of the year because it offers everything other than just 9 ball. People even ridiculously calling it the Matchoom Tour.

Heck, yeah having another promoter and discipline is so bad, we should contact Predator and ask them what they were thinking to just add four WPBA events to their stops. Wonder if they cleared it with Matchroom first? :unsure:
 
After watching Nadal win the tennis event this weekend I couldn't help but think about using this format for pool:

Races to 6, have to win 3 sets, alternate break and single elimination tournaments.

2010 Wimbledon

Some sets in that match went to 6 points, others went to 7 points, and the final set went to 70 points. Whaaa??! How does the scoring in tennis work??! Is it similar to cricket??!

In 2019, Wimbledon instituted a new rule to end marathon matches. In the 5th set, if players tie at 12 games, they must play a tiebreaker. But in previous sets, a tiebreaker is played if the players tie at 6 games. At the Australian Open, a tie-break is played in the final set at 6 all, but continues until one player has ten points and is leading by two. The US Open uses a conventional, first to seven tie-break at 6 all in the final set. The French Open DOES NOT have a fifth set tie-break. Following a change of the rules at Wimbledon, Roland Garros is now the only tournament where play continues until one player wins by two clear games.

The US Open has an 18 hole playoff in the event of a tie after 36 holes. The other three majors have a sudden death format where they play off hole by hole (usually three holes on rotation although it can be two or four. It has even been the 18th again and again on at least one occasion). Cut rules vary depending on field size - the US Masters has even been played without a cut and the whole field playing 36 holes.

Many tournaments around the world are played over 18 holes, sometimes 19 (18 best count). Most pro tournaments are stroke play, some are match play (holes won rather than aggregate score). There are even "skins" games with a prize per hole and the money rolling over to the next hole when a hole is tied.
