U J Puckett on CBS 60 minutes

WOW.......love the stories. Heard most of them through the years, but as long as Ugly Bucket lasted, there are probably thousands more.
I have a few suits that i wore to funerals, (and certain pool Tournaments), the pockets of which contained the funeral cards of dear lost friends and relatives. After Jays post, I immediately went to the closet and started my quest for the info. Knowing it would have been a dark suit, i struck gold pretty soon.
The card said, In Memory Of U.J. Puckett, Who Departed This Life, June 22, 1992.
Memorial Service 10 A.M.-Thursday, June 25, 1992. Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Officiating - Rev. Sam Stence. Interment- Laurel Land Memorial Park. The card held the 23rd Psalm.

I forget who called me with the news, maybe Redbird or Showboat Joe, but I was on the first flight out of south Texas. The funeral chapel was almost packed, mainly players and friends from Fast Freddys Billiards in Ft. Worth. I sat with Joe and Wilma Lowery from Austin, as we had been friends for many years. After the services we all went to the Crowley Rd. pool hall that was U.J.'s haunt and reminisced. A great character and pal, the likes of which, may never be seen again.

Thanks Robin, I thought he had died earlier but maybe I just wanted to cling to a memory. It must have been back in the 80's on a previous trip to Dallas that we all hung together. Remember that trip? UJ wanted to go out and hustle someone, I don't remember who.

I guess when I came in '96, you and I just reminisced about UJ. He is as vivid in my memory today as ever, and always will be. Some people just leave a lasting impression on you, and UJ was definitely one of those people. Just the way he said YEAHHH was unique! Did I make you laugh just now?
