U.S. Airways Says YES to Carry-on Cue Sticks

Folks,

I will be flying to Vegas for the APA Nationals once again in 2 weeks and have decided it is time to check into carrying on my cues. It has always been my impression that this was forbidden, but I was just going by what everyone else told me.

The reason I decide to make this call was the fact that last week I flew from Arkansas home on Delta and carried on a wooden cane.
I went through security (of course sent the cane through xray) and boarded the plane without even a second look from anyone.
(By the way the cane was a gift, and I don't need to use it.....well, only when my back is out)

This prompted my call to US Airways. After a conversation with a Customer Service Agent explaining that the case with the cues would fit in the overhead bin... and about a 5 minute wait on hold while he conferred with a supervisor, he came back and tols me YES, I could carry them on.

Will be nice to not pack the case into my suitcase, or check it as luggage for that matter, or even mail it ahead. We all know how valuable, not only in dollars, but in confidence our playing cues are to each of us.

See you In Vegas,
Dom

Just remember this...

I flew to Vegas this past May for the APA National 9 Ball Championships. I flew US Airways.

Upon departure (from Newark Airport), we taxi'd out towards the runway (about an hour late) then sat in a holding pattern for 3 HOURS because of an error message on the pilot's computer. Apparantly, FAA states that NO plane can take off as long as this message appears on screen.

So after having maintenance crews look and NO ONE having any idea what to do (the pilot actually said to the passengers), it was decided that they would try the old IT remedy... they would simply turn it off and turn it back on again!!! They did and, sure enough, the message went away and we were off to Vegas ...FOUR hours behind schedule!!!

Never once did they say "we're gonna get a new plane" or "we're not sure what is wrong but we're uneasy about flying after seeing that message". No. They figured they would make it go away and just take off, hoping for the best.

The flight back I would say was better, but not much. We were 2 hours delayed because of the 3 on-board restrooms, only 1 was working... four a 7 hour flight of 100+ people.

I'll never fly US Airways again!

Sorry about your flight, we have been lucky to fly non-stop Tampa -Vegas on Airbus 380's I believe. These are from the America West Fleet that I have flown over 20 times on this route.
Never been late, usually early on arrivals. Great 1st class upgrades.
Now...Delta I can tell you horror stories about.....

We are flying non-stop from tampa also on southwest and we are paying about $380 as well. I bought them a while ago, they have gone up since then.

Our tickets were $500.00 including 4 nights at the Hilton. A little high, but we did not pay for them !!
Good Luck to your team !

Airlines do not make the rules; TSA does. I will be sending 4592 emails to the clowns at the TSA for the 9th time to change that rule. I will post it here today recruiting all pool players to join this mailing campaign. I am in Jacksonville and flew in with a babe with an large string instrument with a stick that could go through a neck and they are worried about a cue. Play it safe and have a bag you can check this because of TSA.

Best of luck in your Tourny!

Better read this first call the TSA

I have news for you all the airlines yes means shit- TSA is the security for the fed gov't,the airlines. A Pool cue is and always will be concidered a weapon. You must pass the tsa before you get to the gate. You best have a better plan because you cue is going to end up with all the siscioris and the fingernail clippers mark

I recommend getting used to playing with an inexpensive plain jane cue. I'd never ship my play cue and I'd never take it to the airport with intentions of taking it on-board with me or checking it as luggage. I'd have a backup plain jane that I didn't care about and it would go in a large suitcase. (suitcase is a geezers term for large piece of luggage)

Best.... in the back seat of my car.. where a cop can think it's a shotgun and then taze me.
