UK Open 2026, London, May 26-31

This might be nonsense, but I think Ultimate Pool makes their "pro" players sign a contract that says they won't play other 8 ball. Their pros might have been encouraged to play in the Ultimate Pool USA stuff since it's the same org. How that fits with Chinese 8 ball I don't know.
Shane Thompson and Chris Melling are playing, so maybe no contract....

Nice to see lots of Asians in the field. Perhaps travel from Asia to Europe is not as problematic or expensive as it was for the European Open.

gorst is next on T1, it is reported he has not yet made it to the arena do to international travel. he could be docked games if he is not there by match start

Update: he made it on time

Moritz was nice enough to get a photo taken with me despite having just lost heavily in Scottish Open and Jayson was nice enough to give me advice on breaking in the Matchroom format. Glad to see both win comfortably in the first round.

Curious to see how Fraser Patrick gets on. He beat Sevastyanov at the Scottish open which I thought was a pretty impressive result. He used to be a pro snooker player, was never really a household name, someone who was more battling to stay on the tour than win tournaments, but he did once reach the 3rd round of the snooker UK Championships.

who won the scottish?
Oliver Szolnoki beat Albert Januarta in the final. Oliver had some impressive results on his route to the final, beat Jayson 10-4 in the semis, Labutis 10-4 in the quarters and he beat Sullivan Clark 10-5 (hadn't heard of Sullivan before, but he beat Moritz Nehausen 10-1 in the first round so must have been playing well)

Hadn't seen Januarta play before this tournament. He was very entertaining to watch, just gets down on every shot very quickly without spending any time thinking about it. Cost him in safety battles, but when the table was open and he could attack he looked good.
