UK Open 2026, London, May 26-31

It's a very specialized skill that only applies to nine ball with the nine on the spot and a template rack and new balls. I'm not bothered by it -- other than not being able to make the one ball myself -- but I can see how some could be irritated. It's not the traditional smash-and-pray from a somewhat loose rack.
I get it, Bob, but breaking is a skill. I am sure you agree. Smash and pray is the opposite.

IMO the sport should reward players who master the break. They are showing their skills and dedication. I want less random luck determining the winners. I want to see dominance by dominant players (Victor Wenbanyama anyone). Filler’s performance today was the second best I ever saw.

This is one of those things that I'll never understand why it became a thing.
It's one of the most popular anime of all time (Dragon Ball Z), highest grossing across the world. Basically these warriors have a scouter that they wear on their eye that can gauge the power level of anyone. So when they meet the strongest person, the scouter breaks because it cannot fathom the strength of the person, their power level is over 9,000 of whatever unit of measurement the scouter uses. Like Joshua Filler.

I don’t understand the complaints about pocketing the one on the break. The breaker won the prior game. The breaker should have some advantage. Wojo screwed up early and late. That’s why he lost.
Are you trying to make Wojo a thing? Lol

That seems very far from Voy-check. I think that's how you pronounce it. Idk how you get Wojo from that. Voy-check seems pretty simple to me.

Maybe there is a Polish here that can correct us.

Don't ask me to pronounce Quoc Hoang Duong 🤣

lol trust me, I know the background of the show as I saw it years before it hit Cartoon Network.

I just never understood why that line became a thing. It was a throw away line and for whatever reason, it just took off.

Same. I watch it every couple of months. I alluded to this match when someone mentioned Ko Ping Chung being overrated.

Between this and the fact that he is the current world 10 ball champion, it's hard to say he's overrated.

The Ko brothers seem to be more payout focus these days though, so they're playing a lot of Duya/Heyball.

Can't blame them, WNT payout is dogshit.

$40K for a Major and 2nd place only gets $18K? Yeah I'd pass too lol.

Maybe they will be coming to Predator events when the payouts eventually start exceeding WNT. I don't expect them to miss the US Open or WPC. The rest are laughable.

Man. It must be fun to be so good at pool that a $40k prize is "laughable."
What does my own skill have to do with low prize fund in pool? Money in pro pool is a joke, this is a fact. I will still continue to watch and support, but it's still sad. Especially for people with talent like Filler and the Ko Bros.

it also takes luck to get a shot on the 2-ball. josh got lucky in that regard with 7 BNR's, or whatever the number.

he definitely breaks hard. often made more than one ball on the break

i call him woj. really can't be expected to write out polish names, that would take forever and still go wrong

Nah I get that, just don't know where Wojo comes from lol. Adding the O at the end is the puzzling part. From now on I'll just say Voycheck, since I can't spell his first or last name.

That's easy, it's pronounced the martian :D

I think getting on the 2 is a combination of luck and skill. If you can leave your white near the centre of the table you have far more chance of getting on the 2.

Personally doing the Matchroom cut break I find it fairly easy to pot the 1 of the break when I put my cue ball towards the edge of the breaking box, but when I do that I always end up with the cue ball near the bottom right pocket and no shot on the 2.

Been putting my cue ball more central recently which solves my problem of where the cue ball ends up, but my success rate in pocketing the 9 has plummeted.

My take on this match and the tournament in general. Filler at his best is in another league then anyone else. He is a full speed above just about everyone, except maybe Carlo and a few of the Chinese guys (Ko brothers). And he's the favorite over them too! He reminds me of the dominance Earl had for several years playing 9-Ball in tournaments. He broke everyone down except maybe Buddy, Sigel and Varner. And he still had a higher speed than those three.

I watched several of Filler's matches carefully. He does just about everything (kick, jump, safety, pocket) a little better than anyone else. He's like Scottie Scheffler in golf right now, always in contention to win every tournament he plays in. If he loses it's an upset. Fedor has faded for some reason.
