uk v usa

Hate to say this, but GB would get the better of the US playing 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball and they would just crush the US in Snooker.:(

Other games such as One Pocket, banks and straight pool, the edge goes to the Americans.:)

I wish I could have met Phil. He was hanging around the now defunct Diamond Billiards Pub in Lexington 6 months or so ago. Everyone raved about how well he played. I wish I could have seen it for myself. Good luck to a fine young player.

Now, about your snooker comment, I'm afraid the boys in my area would get smoked in rapid order by your crew. The only snooker table within a 100 kilometer radius to be found is in a picture...

A coffin shaped snooker table. Apt...

BTW, we predominantly use miles in the UK. We use an odd mixture of imperial and metric, with either being fine. But distance and speed is generally imperial, weight metric.

Typical response from those who know less about pool than a fifth grader.

Not really, there is no way anyone that does not play pool, or even does but does not like one-pocket, would watch that game. You must have seen bangers watch someone play one-pocket, they just think they are playing 8 ball really badly.

It's probably the only game, along with maybe banks, that a snooker player without training in it constantly for a few months, would have a really tough time with.

I have to say that Phil has loved learning to play one pocket, I think he enjoys the tactical side of it. I do believe that the uk players have an advantage from playing on 12 foot snooker tables in terms of potting. I remember Phil standing on a beer crate aged 7 potting balls with a rest !!not sure what you in the US call a rest lol:wink:

Thanks for that, Phil should be back in the US for the open in october. Hes playing German Eurotour , starting tomorrow, ppv on kazoom.com

Sad state of affairs when a *pool* cue -- which has traditionally been used to play all pool games (e.g. 8-ball, 14.1, one pocket, bank pool, rotation games, and a slight variant used for the carom games) -- is known as a "9 ball cue" in the UK.

You *do* know we play much more than the brain-dead game of 9-ball, right? :p :D

Hey Sean,
Im sure you know American pool is very much a .minority sport in England , 9 ball is by far the most popular game, followed by 8 ball and recently 10 ball.
99% of the competitions are 9 ball. I have never seen a straight pool, banks or 1P competition. So to the casual observer, 9 ball is American pool. Sad but true.
