ultimate energy drink

Not much of a health nut but I was wondering if anyone has attempted to change their diet to improve concentration and focus. Some of the better players (Buddy Hall, Kid Delicious) were/are not the pinnacle of health but have awesome staying power. So maybe it makes no difference?

But if it does what ingredients do u think would have to go into the ultimate energy drink or meal?. Sans caffeine and only good sugars. I want to avoid monster, red bull, coffee, 5 hour and the rest. It would be interesting to see if eating or drinking certain foods would affect performance based on a sport/game that requires as much concentration that pool does.

To start this off I would imagine it would have to start with B12. It is the cornerstone in converting digested foods into energy.

Hate to make sad, johnnyt, but if there was a food or shirt or shoe or drug or chant out there that made everything 'better', we'd probably all be using it already.

Life generally is better with a well-rounded diet: fresh fruits And vegetables, omega3 seafood, low red meat...coupled with exercise.

That said, I ride lots of bike miles and try to eat healthily. I have to eat every few hours or i start to feel weak and shaky, so now who has stamina?!

I`m not in any way a expert, but it would be naive to think that a energy drink will change your life or game.
As with any other sport, being fit and eating healty is important in pool too.
5-6 meals a day, a good balance of where your protein comes from (beef, fish, chicken, lentils etc.) a decent amount of vegetables and easy on the fast carbohydrates like pasta and potatoes. As much as possible shy away from fried foods.
Drink plenty of water 2-3 liters a day.
If you want a snack try healty things like nuts, strawberries etc.
Set aside one day a week when you treat yourself to something extra.
Go easy on the alcohol.
As Hitchens said about martinis: Observe the same rule as with womens breast, one is too little, three is too many...
Try to work out atleast 2-3 times a week

I don`t really belive in magic cures/diets. If you eat healty, you really don`t need vitamin supplements.

It may be a placebo effect, but...

I find that some 'new-age' beverages increase my focus, reaction, and problem solving; in both billiards and online multiplayer gaming. Neuro "Sonic" and Vitamin Water "Focus" seem to work the best for me.

They won't turn Bobby Brady into Mosconi, but they do give you an extra bounce in your step. Most contain an assortment of B vitamins, caffeine, taurine, etc. I don't normally like caffeine before a match, but if it's been a long day at work before heading out to shoot, it seems to work without a ton of jitters and nerves.

There is a good energy drink on the market & it works very good. It's made by a company called Advocare & the drink is called SPARK! It is chocked full of vitamins & minerals.

IS THIS YOU?

Someone who has trouble waking up or feels "energy slumps" throughout the day
Someone who can't work up enough energy to live life the way you want
Someone who is looking for a more nutritious alternative to coffee, soda or other energy drinks

THE ISSUE:
In today's fast-paced environment, it doesn't take much to cause your body and your mind to simply run out of steam. When you're low on energy, usually every facet of your life suffers to some degree. Low-energy levels are often precursors to poor weight management, increased mental and physical stress, and much more. Most of us don't eat like we should or exercise enough – many times because we are too tired at the end of the day to dedicate 30 minutes or more to exercise. Furthermore, we often look to popular choices like soda and coffee drinks as a quick source of energy, though they are often high in sugar and calories. And even though they might provide the quick bolt of energy we're looking for, it disappears just as quickly, usually lasting no more than 30 minutes. Experience shows that when you increase your energy, you're often more likely to improve your overall health. For peak performance and vibrant health, we need sustained and focused energy. Poor diets, lack of physical activity and the demands of our everyday lifestyle can drain our energy, promote weight gain and lead to a variety of negative physical conditions. What we need is an energy drink that is quick to respond, long lasting, and not full of sugar and calories.

THE SOLUTION: AdvoCare Spark®
AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink Mix is a unique multi-nutrient system that was developed as a nutritional source of energy and enhanced mental focus.* It's a sugar-free drink mix that has more than 20 vitamins, minerals and nutrients that work synergistically to provide a healthy, balanced and effective source of energy that won't overburden or overstimulate your body like other energy drinks on the market.* This amazing product serves as an all-in-one solution that gives you a quick boost of energy that lasts for hours.* With eight refreshing flavors (Watermelon, Mango Strawberry, Pink Lemonade, Grape, Mandarin Orange, Fruit Punch, Cherry and Citrus), you're sure to find one that's perfect for you. And the best part? Only 45 calories in each serving!

Ingredients in AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink Mix contribute to supporting sustained energy or mental focus in several ways.*

For a quick boost of energy*: AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink Mix contains an effective amount of caffeine to give you the quick boost you're looking for.* Caffeine supports the processes in the central nervous system and muscles that enhance mental energy and focus in a relatively short amount of time.* The amino acid taurine helps provide the fast-acting energy you need that won't overstimulate or overburden your body.*

For long-lasting energy*: The B vitamins that are present in each serving of AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink Mix enhance your body's natural ability to produce and sustain its own energy, leading to long-lasting benefits.* Since your body looks to carbohydrates, protein and fat as its primary sources of energy, it makes sense to enhance the metabolism of each for optimal energy production. B vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-12 and vitamin B-6 all specifically contribute to the conversion of the foods we eat and the calories we store for energy.

For mental focus and clarity*: The neuroactive amino acids in AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink Mix help increase your mental focus and alertness by supporting your brain's ability to receive and send messages to and from the nervous system.* For example, L-tyrosine an amino acid found in dietary proteins, is believed to improve mental energy and focus by serving as a precursor for specific neurotransmitters. Furthermore, the choline and GABA found in AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink Mix are essential for nerve function, muscle control, memory and many other functions.* Together, the nutrients found in AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink Mix provide the energy, mental focus and well-rounded nutrition that makes it the most effective energy drink on the market.*

I am confused. U say that it would be naive to think that an energy drink would change my life/game but then proceed to state how eating right (which promotes energy) is the way to go. :) Maybe you confused what I ment by energy drink. I don't mean the death in a metal can like monster or red bull. I am talking about juicing and eating particular foods that promote energy and concentration.

Well to a certain extent it might be benefits to some foods/ingredients over others to help concentration, but i think you have to have an overall approach. If you eat crap, it does not help much to have a super healty smoothie before playing.
Obvious things like lots of coffee before playing is not going to give good results...
The main goal when playing for 5-6 hours is to have a even level of blood sugar, that will give your body some consistency.

No one has mentioned adding complex carbs along with the other food groups - perhaps the most enduring food there is. 4 hours of pure energy. Whole grains baby!

Throw a whole grain bar in your case. Anyone know some of the best ones out there? Natures Valley are ok. How @ Cliff bars?

This will fix you right up.

Fruit Smoothie:
1 cup Almond milk.
1 scoop whey protein powder (your choice on flavor).
1 raw egg.
1 packet Stevia for sweetness (optional).
1 Tbsp. chopped Walnuts.
1 medium Banana.
1/2 cup frozen berries (your choice).
Blend until smooth (about 30 seconds).

Deeeelicious! :)

Johnnie, Joey A started a Juicing Thread which now resides in NPR.

Might be some helpful info there for you. Its something that I have been seriously considering as well.

It's not a drink, but there was a product mentioned in a "What's In You Case?" interview with Jasmin Ouschan a few years back. It's on YouTube somewhere. She spoke of the need by athletes to replenish themselves during long, grueling tournament matches. Seems the Europeans take a much more athletic approach to pool than most Americans do.

I don't what the product was, but I'd give it a try if I thought it would allow me to play with Jasmin.

Er... I meant play LIKE Jasmin. :p

I tried alpha brain with no results. My friend really liked them though, but i thought he might have felt a placebo effect. I'm not really a believer.

Interesting. I'm sure it's like anything else, affects people differently. I bought a bottle and have taken about half of it. I definatly "feel it". I enjoy the feeling but I'm not sure it helps my pool game. It actually makes me too relaxed if that makes any sense. I feed on the nerves and adrenaline when I play. For people who "choke", I bet it would help. By the way, I'm not saying that I'm immune to choking, but it would have to be very serious money or the US Open; something crazy like that. I think it's worth a try to some. They will refund you the money for your first bottle if you don't like it. No risk.
