Ultimate Pool Shootout North Carolina bracket

I’ve never embraced the barbox except in a bar for just screwing around. But 8 ball on a barbox is not as simple as it may seem.

With that said, I’ve watched more barbox pool in the last week than I did in the last ten years.

This has been a very entertaining tournament and very well run as far as I can tell.

Maybe I need to open my mind up a bit more!!!

Well done Ultimate Pool!

Try playing in one of these events, they are well run tournaments and a blast.

And what about now? Shane just beat Bergman in the Open finals?
Still feel the same. I would never say that Bergman, SVB, Sky, etc aren't great, but the Brits play better. Heaven forbid they ever decide to get their own cues and actually practice ahead of time on our equipment!

The UK version is a different style, the patterns are very surgical with minimal breakouts which is rare with US bar table pool. Bar table pool with a snooker type of style to it, I think besides the tables the different ball sets also make a big difference for the players and the viewers as well! UP USA needs to have their own American ball sets made blue/red, blue/yellow, red/yellow etc. I used to play online cash tourneys on an Aussie based site and the blue/yellow balls simplified the game instantaneously so I always chose that color combo with the 4 options they had 1 - 15, blue/red, blue/yellow and yellow/red.

Melling is in the top tier of the UK version but lately still has a few players better than him Tom/Declan. On top of that guys like Shaw/Daz don't even play UK pool anymore and Boyes, Hill, Potts and Selby will occasionally play with MIXED results which is insane!! SVB vs Potts on a 9 foot diamond would be the most intriguing 8 ball match up currently. Other than that I prefer bar tables for 8 ball. The UK has SO many versions of 8 ball unless you are from there or have played the games you can't comprehend the depth those countries have!! Some of the rules, pocket size/ball sizes are just gaffy!!

patterns for sure. especially cousins. he rarely seems to have a hard shot. but bergmans patterns are great too

It was great to see a 9ft table player like Shane show the 7ft players how it's done.

Skills you learn on a 9ft table are transferable to any game.

More Americans should spend time learning how to play on a 9ft table.

Shane played an awful lot on 7’ tables growing up. So he learned some things the euros in their clubs didn’t. 😜

You can't be serious
Oh he’s serious. Right now I’m playing a league match at an old school dive bar. No, it isn’t ideal. The Valley tables play ok. Posts and barstools get in the way. The magnetic cue ball isn’t great. Not what I usually play on. Not my ideal. But I’m drinking Hamms on tap at $3 and playing pool with people who like to have fun. ‘Murica. No apologies. Brings back memories of my youth. Except the cue ball was the big one on the Valleys.

Oh yeah, there’s football on TV. Hand in the dirt football. Not that kickball stuff.

One of the more incredible claims I've ever read on the forum. I wonder if there is even a single pro player that agrees with you. You get $20,000 for showing up and an extra $20,000 if your team wins. Nobody is going to plan their entire year to be in their top form for the Mosconi. Do you think the Asians consider it the most important event in pool?

On the brighter side, while not even one of the three Europeans that won a WNT major this year was on Team "Rest of the World" at the almost embarrassing Reyes Cup, at least Filler, Labutis, and Alcaide won't be on the sidelines, so the Mosconi will offer a much higher grade of pool than that displayed at the Reyes Cup.

Uninformed. Tyler was probably the top performer on Team USA in 2024. Similarly, his unexpectedly fine performance in 2018 had a lot to do with ending Team USA's losing streak.

America has five of the Top 100 players in the world based on Fargo, four if you don't count Gorst. Two of them are, more or less, retired from 9ball competition. In fact, the only two active Americans in the Fargo Top 100 are Shane and Skyler. Americans, as a group, have combined for exactly one WNT major since the tour began. There may be a little pride riding on the outcome here, but even if Team USA were to win 11-0, they would remain way behind Europe as cueists.

I love the Mosconi, and I'll attend my twelfth in a few weeks, but it's an exhibition, hardly a major competition. It is, however, an enduring festival of pool and attendees always enjoy it.

Actually, unlike the members of Team Europe, all five team members of Team USA will be competing at the International Open in Florida the week before the Mosconi. They will also hold private sessions to prepare. That's good enough for me.
If anyone is curious, Team Europe are spending the week before it practicing in Jayson's sister's pool hall in Glasgow (McGoldricks).

They did the same before the last home Mosconi too

Not sure I'd agree with that statement. Competitive UK 8 ball is either Blackball rules or international rules. There also used to be a ruleset called world rules, but thankfully it has died out as it was a terrible ruleset that lead to boring matches.
