Seen allot of situations/different rules/like ok to hit and move your opponents ball and not give up BIH or a couple yrs ago 8 on the break won only on the TV table.
How about this.... make a stripe on the break, you must shoot stripes (old school rules).
Or....
Make one of each group then your opponent choose which group you must shoot, if you miss then your opponent can shoot either group.

Sorry, but this makes ZERO sense. If you're gonna let the opponent be able to designate the successful breakers suit (which, I don't know why you penalize a successful break), then they are therefore designated as the other suit.
This sounds like a rule made up by bad players to try and have a chance to beat better players.

I'm just stirring the pot Mr. Zone, as if Ultimate hasn't done ANYTHING out of the ordinary :).
Old school rules also on any scratch, BIH in the Kitchen. That I like.
When Stroud was on my team with Scott Smith and Jr Harris, Billy one yr averaged over 900.
Meaning he always won 9 outta ten games, no other player in our league ever did that.

The rules Ultimate Pool is using is only out of the ordinary for Americans. It's very common for them. Our rules are pretty goofy to them as well.

take what you make ,,, was always the best rule. make both equally, table is open until another ball is made. it does speed things up and favors the better breaker.

i agree it speeds up things but how does it favor the better breaker?

it probably doesn't speed up overall match time, but it speeds up the process of choosing suit
It doesn't because you don't choose the suit, it is chosen for you. It reduces the chance of the breaker getting out after the break, so it slows things down. Having a choice speeds the game up.

True, but did the people designing this format play more 8 ball than the Americans?

In ultimate pool the BIH in kitchen is a weird rule though. It is in kitchen but you can shoot a ball in the kitchen. After playing a session of ultimate pool I have decided I don’t like it. Have to keep playing because our team qualified for the qualifier for nationals by finishing second. But you have to play the next session while waiting for the qualifier. So I need to keep a good enough attitude about it but I have decided never to play again after this year. I don’t like the format or the rules. It’s not one thing, but all of it together I just don’t enjoy it. I can’t point to one particular rule, but I just don’t like the whole experience. Some people love it. I prefer BCA by a lot. Maybe some depends on the particular area given how people talk about their leagues. And I like watching good UP matches on YouTube. Although the shootout tiebreaker is hilariously bad IMO - watched some of the Rodney Morris vs Melling 10 ball. So we’ll see if my team goes to nationals and somehow wins something. I hope we do. But I won’t play it anymore. I have heard others agree with me but don’t know how many will quit.

They like soccer more than football too, which is obviously and profoundly misguided.😜😇

How does take/make speed things up? Isn’t a BnR more likely if the breaker can choose suit after a successful break?

I don’t follow…..
the rule where you can chose favors the better breaker and ball pocketer. hurts the mover and weaker player the most.

the rule take what you make also favors the better breaker but not as much as the choice after the break.

as far as speeding things up it makes the breaker leave the table if he misses on the break and continue immediately if he makes a ball.
it doesnt have him standing around trying to figure out all the best possible run outs to chose from. and slow players take full advantage of that and rightly so.

I feel the same. Playing in the one in Denver, had the guy 5-3 and in control, he missed his shot but it went in another pocket and it was accepted. He did it again and beat me on the hill. I got in the money but............. Also Matlock on the Streaming table was Extremely surprised 8 on the break won, but not during normal play. Normal was not in play.
