Understanding Aiming as a Shot Picture

When I see a video of a top player explaining how he aims it rarely makes any sense to me. I'm sure it makes sense to the player who figured it out by hitting a million balls.

I look at a spot on the object ball and adjust for English. You hit enough balls and you figure out how to aim.
 
I totally get "shot picture". One thing I will do is conciously "block out" a ball if it's close to my CB path and interfering with my shot picture. By "blocking out" I mean just that; pretend it's not there and "look through it". Once I do this, then I look for the proper/familiar shot picture.
