Understanding which Simonis cloth for next re-cover

Just picked up another pool room with 15 Diamonds in Wyoming, through Paradise Pinball and vending, and was asked if I would be interested in taking over recovering their 100+ valley tables as well. I said we could talk about the Valleys, so I might be interested in those as well.

Holy smokes!!!! I'm assuming that the Valley's are leased/rented and spread out at a variety of locations?? That would be an awful lot of tables at a single location. Is pool more popular per capita in the Badlands area, seems like they have/had more than their share of bigger pool rooms??

Pinkys in Obama use to have 98 valleys and 10 Gold Crowns in it.

This work is for a vending company out of Denver.

I can't think of any other table mechanic that can move to an area they've never worked in, and just by announcing they're moving there, that can get this slammed with work, and that would be Jay, A-1 billiards, and I'm not betting even he could. I dropped this line of work 22 years ago when I started working with Diamond, but that don't matter, everyone's that heard I'm moving to Boise is getting on the waiting list now! I'd like to see ANY other so called table mechanic get that kind of a reaction from the locals, moving to an area where they've never done work before!

As I've always said before, this business will decide who stays, and who leaves! It don't matter how good a so called table mechanic thinks they are, even their customers can be fooled, but that'll never work on the public as they WILL judge your work, and make or break you!

And I cant even get anyone to come To Mass to get just one table done.. Tomorrow I will be calling a 5th Mechanic.. One of these days, someone will find Cloth for me / call me back. I think my table and I will move to Washington..

Have you tried Jay at A1 billiards that was mentioned above. He's in New Hampshire I believe.

I am sure he had to be on the list!! The issue with most good mechanics in areas where there are few: they simply don't have to or want to travel. If you are more than an hour or two away, it makes it harder. Most people will not want to pay the travel fee or UNDERSTAND IT. If a mechanic can make his hourly as much as he wants local, he has to charge you his same hourly + gas + expenses for travel, most people are not able to figure that out because they are only thinking about themselves. Our industry needs a REAL training program. I have a project I am working on, but its not really a money maker so it is hard to get people interested unfortunately.

Tell me about it. Try looking for table mechanics in Canada , especially in the Atlantic provinces.

Oscar Aparicio may take a trip north from New Jersey. 609-276-6687

Yes, Jay was the first person I reached out to (actually talked with him for a 1/2 hour) and I would love for him to come down but right now Jay is not able to do it.
Jay is a great conversationalist! He is also a great business man and he has to be one of the top Mechanics ever. He is actually the ONLY mechanic to ever show me any of the techniques I have learned: face to face. Never heard no crazy camped out at peoples houses, missing rails, missing money or messed up stories about him! I am crazy(safe), thats all anyone can say about me~~~ AHAHAHAHAHA! If Oscar will come your way, I would take that offer, especially if he can do it SOON! Kind of weird that I have NEVER worked with another Mechanic at or above my skill level. Jamie Pluta came on a job in Minnesota to assist me with an install, I did trade some tricks and secrets with him, He was the one that told me about these:

a lil skateboard grip tape and WHAMMO best pullers I have used.

To elaborate a lil further: most of the top mechanics i deal with got much of their base knowledge from RKC< I also did to, my situation is different in the fact that I never got to train onsite. I did everything by looking at pics, verbal explanation over the phone/email/text and the few videos and books that are out there. I love what I do and took all that info and made a career out of it! I have accounts with every major manufacturer and wholesaler thats worth having in our industry. 9.5 years. https://www.facebook.com/toledopooltables/photos/?ref=page_internal that is a link to most of my restoration work :)

Training program needs support. I have ideas, people who are already in on it and we need more!

So you think its a possibility that someone will come up from NJ? The other issue is Cloth.

No, that's not the problem, if you're willing to pay, someone is always willing to take your money. The PROBLEM is you're looking for quality work, and that right there becomes the deal breaker with pretty much everyone you talk to.
